As Sánchez and her team emerged from the capsule in their custom blue space suits, Bezos began walking briskly around the landing site. In his excitement, he stepped straight into a shallow ditch, lost his balance, and pitched forward, catching himself just inches from a full face-plant.Cameras captured the whole moment live.
A clean landing… and one not-so-clean one
The brief stumble didn’t stop Bezos from jumping right up, brushing himself off, and going in for a massive bear hug. Still, the internet noticed.
“Billionaire down!” one user posted on X (formerly Twitter). Others joined in with memes and jokes, poking fun at Bezos’ less-than-graceful moment during what was meant to be a celebration of progress in spaceflight.
Meanwhile, Sánchez, 55, was joined on the NS-31 mission by an impressive roster: NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, media icon Gayle King, producer Kerianne Flynn, and pop star Katy Perry. The flight lasted just 10 minutes but crossed the Kármán line-the internationally recognized boundary of space-making them official astronauts.
Before launch, Bezos had shared some touching words with the crew: “I’m so excited for you… When you get back, I can’t wait to hear how it’s changed you.”
Celebrities like Khloé Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Oprah Winfrey, and even Perry’s daughter Daisy were among the attendees. But when the moment came, it was Bezos-literally hitting the ground in excitement-who made the unexpected headline.
