Por si había dudas, ya podemos decir que una audiencia considerable se conectó el domingo a la emisión de la CBS para ver cómo Rory McIlroy ganaba su primera chaqueta verde durante la ronda final del Masters. El drama llegó con el playoff de desempate, pero la jornada ya había arrancado muy interesante con Rory cediendo el liderato a DeChambeau por unos minutos. Se sumaron varios jugadores a la pelea, aunque fue Rose quien llegó a la meta con McIlroy en una jornada que fue un tobogán de emociones, debido a la constante mezcla de aciertos y errores de los protagonistas.
Según CBS Sports, la transmisión del domingo tuvo un promedio de 12,7 millones de espectadores, lo que la convirtió no solo en la ronda final del Masters más vista desde 2018, sino también en la transmisión de golf más vista en ese periodo. La audiencia aumentó un 33 % con respecto al año pasado.
Esta alcanzó su punto máximo con 19,5 millones, justo cuando McIlroy se enfrentó en el desempate con quien acabaría como subcampeón, Justin Rose. Su victoria final fue la consecución del Grand Slam de Rory, un momento muy esperado en el mundo del golf que se produjo en el torneo más conocido del mundo. Cabe reseñar que ya la tercera ronda del torneo también aumentó un 16% este año, atrayendo a 7,6 millones de espectadores el sábado.
Por comparar, la ronda final del año pasado atrajo a 9,59 millones de espectadores, un 20 % menos que en el mismo periodo del año anterior con Jon Rahm como ganador. En 2022, 10,17 millones de personas sintonizaron el desenlace del domingo. En 2015, el Masters tuvo una audiencia espectacular en su último día, cuando una media de 14 millones de personas vieron la victoria de Jordan Spieth.
