Isso porque o cenário das contratações de grandes nomes do futebol mundial — entre eles Messi e Neymar — teve início em um passado recente. Nesta temporada, justamente a primeira em que não tem mais essas figuras, o clube parece estar no caminho certo para encerrar a seca. Após vencer o Aston Villa, da Inglaterra, por 3 a 1, no Parque dos Príncipes, a equipe comandada pelo espanhol Luis Enrique espera confirmar a classificação à semifinal nesta terça-feira, a partir das 16h (transmissão do canal Max), no Villa Park, em Birmingham.
O PSG foi fundado há 55 anos, em uma fusão entre o Paris FC e o Stade Saint-Germain, para ser o grande representante da capital francesa no futebol. Em 2011, viveu quase que um renascimento, quando o Qatar Sports Investments (QIS) comprou o clube. A partir dali, os investimentos seriam muito maiores e, consequentemente, a cobrança pelas conquistas também. O empresário, ex-tenista catari e CEO do fundo de investimentos, Nasser Al-Ghanim Khelaïfi, apresentou um projeto de cinco anos para transformar o PSG em uma grande potência europeia.
Mesmo com o predomínio local — campeão de 11, incluindo esta temporada, das últimas 14 edições do Campeonato Francês —, a ambição pela Champions League permaneceu como uma grande barreira. Muito dinheiro foi gasto para que grandes estrelas do futebol mundial trouxessem o título mais cobiçado do Velho Continente. Além de Neymar e Messi, Mbappé, Thiago Silva e Ibrahimovic. Mas a junção de grandes craques não foi suficiente. O comentarista da TNT Sports, Bruno Formiga, explica que a visão de montagem de elenco mudou nos últimos anos:
— Eu acho que o PSG resolveu dar uma realinhada nos objetivos e nas formas nas últimas temporadas. Não é de agora, ele já veio tentando tornar o elenco, o time como um todo, mais francês. E acho que isso eles têm conseguido e automaticamente vão se reconectando um pouco com o torcedor, criando uma identificação de que aquilo não é um “Globetrotter mundial” (equipe de basquete dos EUA que faz jogos com apresentações performáticas”.
Não foi porque se desfez da ideia de tentar reunir o maior número de estrelas que o PSG não tem um jogador que é “o cara” do time. Ousmane Dembélé assumiu o ponto no decorrer da temporada. O atacante francês, de 27 anos, vive o melhor momento da carreira. Considerado uma das grandes promessas quando surgiu, em 2015, ele passou por momentos de instabilidade no Borussia Dortmund-ALE e, principalmente, no Barcelona-ESP. O salto de evolução tão esperado aconteceu em 2025, ano em que já marcou 25 gols e é o artilheiro dentre todos os jogadores das cinco principais ligas do mundo.
Apesar de ter Dembélé em grande fase, o PSG chama atenção pelo coletivo forte e organizado. Não à toa, faturou o título francês com seis rodadas de antecedência. O treinador espanhol, que está no seu segundo ano de clube, vem encontrando o encaixe perfeito para seu modelo de jogo.
— O PSG 2024/25 não tem o mesmo brilho individual, mas é um time muito completo e tem a cara de Luis Enrique. É, provavelmente, mais preparado para dominar adversários do que em qualquer outro momento da era Catar — explicou Rafael Oliveira, comentarista da CazéTV.
Para avançar à semifinal, o PSG pode até perder por um gol de diferença. Se for por dois, o jogo vai para a prorrogação. Na outra partida de hoje, às 16h (transmissão SBT, TNT e Max), pelas quartas, o Barcelona, que na ida goleou o Borussia (4 a 0), tem grande vantagem para confirmar a vaga.

Eagles to waive OL Kenyon Green five months after trading for former first-round pick
