„Tom ist im Training umgeknickt und hat sich dabei eine Fraktur des fünften Mittelfußknochens zugezogen“, erklärt Mannschaftsarzt Dr. Jan Vonhoegen. Kiesler wird bereits am Donnerstag von Dr. Alexander Hundeshagen im Krankenhaus Köln-Merheim operiert. Es wird mit einer Ausfallzeit von etwa acht Wochen gerechnet. Dann ist die Saison vorbei.

Nach seiner Knieverletzung hatte der Rückraumspieler und Abwehrstratege neun Monate um seine Rückkehr auf die Handballplatte gekämpft. Anfang März, im Spiel gegen Bietigheim, war es dann so weit. „Es ist einfach schön wieder da zu sein. Hier in der Schwalbe Arena vor den Fans zu spielen mit meiner Mannschaft, das habe ich schon am meisten vermisst“, sagte er nach seinem Comeback.
[–>Und er wird es nun wieder vermissen. „Wir sind alle sehr mitgenommen und fühlen mit Tom mit“, so Trainer Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson. „Er war auf einem sehr guten Weg und hat nach seiner langen Ausfallzeit hart für sein Comeback gearbeitet. Dass es wieder ihn erwischt, macht uns alle traurig, aber das gehört im Profisport leider dazu.“
Der Isländer weiter: „Wir müssen bis zum Saisonende auf Tom verzichten und haben noch weitere Verletzte, aber es gibt andere Spieler, die jetzt noch mehr die Chance erhalten auf der Platte zu stehen, sich zu beweisen und Leistung zu bringen.“ So fällt auch Julian Köster nach einer Not-Operation am Knie noch lange.
