This offseason has brought us plenty of storylines-most of them still unresolved: where Rodgers will play, Micah Parsons’ contract with the Dallas Cowboys, Brock Purdy’s deal with the 49ers, and many more topics. NFL news has definitely been buzzing.
As for Brock Purdy’s contract, it seems that talks between him and the team’s management are completely stalled. Purdy is entering the final year of his contract with the 49ers, and reports indicate that he and his agents are looking for a new deal worth more than $50 million per season-a situation that has sparked divided opinions.
Next chapter: motherhood! Olivia Culpo and Christian McCaffrey are waiting their first child
In 2023, Purdy led the team all the way to the Super Bowl, where they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. But last season saw a major step backward. While not all of it was his fault, he was part of the team-and not only did the 49ers miss the playoffs, they finished last in their division.
Purdy’s contract could put the 49ers franchise at risk
Los Angeles Rams star Puka Nacua was asked about the possible contract extension for Brock Purdy and said the team needs to be very careful, because the future of the franchise could be in danger.
Puka Nacua spoke on the podcast Games with Names, hosted by former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman, and here’s what the Rams player had to say:
“I don’t think so,” Nacua told Edelman on the podcast when asked if Purdy deserves a deal worth over $50 million. “I think somewhere in the mid-40s is fair. I think so.”
“He seems like a smart guy. They still have a shot within their competitive window. But I think if he goes over $50 million, that window closes.”
Nacua’s opinion makes complete sense-paying a player $50 million always carries some level of risk for the team, and especially so with Purdy, after a rough previous season. In his career, Purdy has completed 722 of 1,069 passes for 9,518 yards and 64 touchdowns.

That gutsy performance from the future Hall of Famer had a ripple effect. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. slugged his fifth home run of the postseason. No. 9 hitter Andres Gimenez collected four RBIs.
