Antes da partida entre Internacional x Palmeiras, pelo Brasileirão, Diego Souza já imaginava que seria um confronto complicado para os donos da casa, sobretudo pela competitividade característica dos comandados de Abel Ferreira. Dito e feito.
Apesar de um duelo até equilibrado, quem levou a melhor acabou sendo o Verdão. Com gol marcado por Facundo Torres, o alviverde conquista um resultado bastante importante em um confronto direto na briga pelo título.
Como previsto por Diego Souza, o Palmeiras foi combativo, organizado e letal no ataque. Aos 18 minutos, Gustavo Gómez lançou Rios na direita, ele deixou Bernabei para trás e colocou Facundo Torres na cara do gol para abrir o placar.
O Internacional ainda teve chance para empatar, mas parou em Weverton e também no forte e organizado sistema defensivo do Palmeiras.
De forma momentânea, o Verdão chegou a assumir a liderança do Brasileirão com 10 pontos, mas acabou ultrapassado pelo Flamengo, que derrotou o Juventude com muita facilidade.

Logo no primeiro minuto de jogo, Weverton sofreu uma torção no tornozelo esquerdo e precisou receber atendimento médico.
