Insgesamt 23 Klubs würden 2025/26 gern in der Bundesliga spielen. Zusätzlich zu den 17 Erstligisten haben auch sechs Zweitligisten ihre Lizenz-Anträge fristgerecht eingereicht.

Diese sechs Zweitligisten wollen in die Bundesliga aufsteigen
Jena, Trier, Gießen, Crailsheim, Bremerhaven und Hagen wollen hoch, wenn sie die sportliche Qualifikation schaffen. Die Hauptrunde ist bereits beendet, die Liga pausiert noch knapp zwei Wochen. Erst am 30. April beginnen die Playoffs, das letzte Finale wird am 31. Mai gespielt.
Etwas ungewöhnlich: Der Siebte und Achte vor Hauptrunde haben ihre Lizenzierungs-Unterlagen nicht eingereicht, bleiben in der 2. Liga, selbst wenn sie den sportlichen Aufstieg packen würden.
Im letzten Jahr hatte der Vorrunden-Siebte Karlsruhe das Finale erreicht, sogar beide Spiele gegen Frankfurt gewonnen. Doch die BBL hatte eine Lizenzierung aus finanziellen Gründen abgelehnt. Nur Frankfurt ging hoch. Deshalb hat die Bundesliga in dieser Saison nur 17 Teams.

Mit einer Entscheidung, welche Teams die wirtschaftlichen Kriterien für die Bundesliga erfüllen, wird Anfang Juni, also nach Ende der Erst- und Zweitliga-Playoffs gerechnet.
