Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid has reached the 100-point mark for the fifth straight season and eighth time in his career.
McDavid assisted on Ty Emberson’s opening goal at 8:20 of the first period against the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday to get there.
McDavid joins Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Marcel Dionne as the only players in NHL history to record 100 points in eight seasons. Only twice in McDavid’s 10-year NHL career has he not hit the century mark.

The first time was his rookie campaign in 2015-16 when he was limited to 48 points in 45 games because of a broken collarbone. The other occurrence was in 2019-20. He had 97 points in 64 games when the NHL halted play and ultimately cancelled the rest of the regular season because of COVID-19. The Oilers had 11 more games remaining on their schedule, so McDavid was a lock to get there.
This is the latest in a season that McDavid has recorded his 100th point since doing so in the season finale in 2016-17, the first time he accomplished the feat. McDavid played all 82 games that season.
Wednesday marked just his 67th game in 2024-25. McDavid missed three games with an ankle injury from Oct. 31 to Nov. 4. He was suspended for three games in January. He also was sidelined for eight games with a lower-body injury from March 21 to April 7 before missing Monday’s playoff preview against Los Angeles for rest reasons.
The 100th point tied McDavid with Toronto Maple Leafs winger Mitch Marner for fifth in the NHL scoring race. This will be his lowest finish in that department since his rookie season. McDavid has won the Art Ross Trophy five times, finished second in scoring twice and was third last season.
