The conspicuous bruise on Donald Trump’s right hand has once again captured public attention after it was clearly visible during his appearance at a recent football trophy presentation. The former president, now 78, was seen holding a commemorative football with both hands, his trademark championship ring on one hand and the now-familiar darkened spot on the other.
This isn’t the first time the discoloration has been noticed. Since last October, when Trump briefly stepped away from the campaign trail to attend the Al Smith Dinner in New York, the mysterious mark has appeared and reappeared, often seemingly concealed with makeup. Each new sighting has reignited questions about its origin-and more pressingly, about Trump’s health.

Doctor weighs in on possible causes
Dr. Ola Otulana, a physician based in the U.K., offered insight into what the bruise might mean. According to the doctor, the injury appears consistent with a “superficial contusion,” likely caused by something as simple as bumping into a hard surface or gripping an object tightly.
He also pointed to more routine explanations like a blood draw or IV treatment, both of which could leave similar marks. Importantly, Dr. Otulana noted that bruising is far more common and longer-lasting in older adults due to thinner skin and fragile blood vessels. Medications such as Aspirin or anti-inflammatories can also increase bruising, making it more visible and persistent.
While he emphasized that the bruise does not raise immediate medical concerns, he added that if the mark spreads or becomes more frequent, it would be worth further medical evaluation.
White House insists: nothing to see here
Despite the speculation, a White House official previously dismissed any medical concerns, attributing the bruise to Trump’s constant handshaking with supporters and officials a routine part of his campaign and public life. However, critics remain unconvinced, especially given the frequency with which the bruise has returned over the months.
On social media, theories range from minor trauma to more elaborate guesses involving vitamin deficiencies or hydration treatments. None of these have been substantiated, and the official narrative continues to stress the physical toll of handshakes.
For now, the bruise remains an unsolved curiosity visible, persistent, and open to interpretation.
