Aaron Rodgers’ future remains one of the biggest unknowns of this NFL offseason. The veteran quarterback is still weighing the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offer while also hinting that he may retire this year. As Rodgers deliberates, his former teammate David Bakhtiari seized the opportunity to poke fun at his hesitation.
Bakhtiari and Rodgers shared the Green Bay Packers locker room from 2013 to 2022, before Rodgers departed for the New York Jets. However, after two seasons of unfulfilled expectations, the Jets moved on, leaving Rodgers struggling to get his career back on track.
In the three months since his exit from New York, the four-time NFL MVP has been linked to nearly every team in need of a quarterback. A few weeks ago, the Steelers presented Rodgers with a contract offer, but he has yet to respond-leading to ridicule from Bakhtiari and Scott Barrett.
What’s up with Rodgers?
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Barrett, CEO of Fantasy Points, shared a short video from the movie Grandma’s Boy. In the clip, the character “Mr. Cheezle” narrates a bizarre dream to a group of young employees, who stare in confusion.
Barrett accompanied the video with the caption: “The Pittsburgh Steelers: ‘So are you retiring or what? We have Shedeur [Sanders] in on a visit, and it sounds like he’s going to fall to us…'” The post humorously implied that Rodgers-like Mr. Cheezle-was lost in an ayahuasca-induced dream.
Bakhtiari wasted no time jumping on the joke, reposting the clip with the message “Probably” and tagging Rodgers directly.
A-Rod is closer to retirement than another Super Bowl
Just this Thursday, in an interview with Pat McAfee, Rodgers confirmed he had spoken with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin. However, he also admitted that retirement remained an option. “I’m open to anything and attached to nothing,” the 41-year-old quarterback said in his signature style.
With the 2025 NFL Draft poised to shake up the quarterback landscape, Rodgers might want to make up his mind-before the decision is made for him.
