Sacramento Kings star DeMar DeRozan found himself at the center of controversy just days after his team’s loss to the Dallas Mavericks in the play-in tournament. While dining at a restaurant, DeRozan was approached by a fan who recorded their interaction, sparking a heated altercation that has since spread across social media.
In the video posted online, the fan can be seen shining a bright light in DeRozan’s face while recording. The Kings forward responded forcefully, repeatedly telling the man, “Don’t walk up on me.” The situation quickly escalated, leading to a tense exchange between the two.

A separate observer captured footage of the dispute, showing a woman stepping in to separate DeRozan from the man, shouting, “Let him go, D!” While the exact details of what transpired remain unclear, the fan later posted his own version of events, claiming he was “attacked and body slapped” by DeRozan. The post also showed him in an ambulance on the way to the hospital.
Not the right way to approach him
Many online have speculated that the man was seeking attention, noting that DeRozan reacted in a way that reflected his frustration rather than causing serious harm. Fortunately, spectators stepped in to diffuse the situation before it escalated further.
DeRozan has remained silent on the matter and has not made any public statement regarding the incident. As one of the league’s respected veterans, he is likely focused on regrouping after the Kings’ elimination and preparing for next season.
With two years remaining on his contract, DeRozan remains a key piece in Sacramento’s long-term plans. As the Kings look to build a contender, the hope is that he can continue to lead on and off the court, without further distractions.
