The Kansas City Chiefs may have a golden opportunity to bring back a familiar face to their secondary without surrendering a draft pick. Cornerback Kendall Fuller, who played a pivotal role in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIV victory, is now a free agent after being waived by the Miami Dolphins.
Fuller first arrived in Kansas City as part of the 2018 trade that sent quarterback Alex Smith to Washington. During his four seasons with the Commanders, he collected 10 interceptions, earning a reputation as a reliable coverage defender. His solid play secured him a two-year deal with Miami, but his stint there lasted just one season, as he was released in a cost-cutting move following an underwhelming performance.

Miami let Fuller go after he allowed 27 receptions on 43 targets, making him expendable in a crowded secondary. While he struggled to meet expectations, his experience and skillset could still prove valuable, especially for a Chiefs team looking to reinforce its cornerback depth.
It is not crazy to think it could happen
Kansas City has eight picks in the upcoming NFL Draft, and while selecting a young cornerback remains an option, signing Fuller on a team-friendly deal could allow them to focus those selections on more pressing needs. The Chiefs are in the market for a pass rusher, offensive tackle, and potentially a running back. Additionally, they could use added depth at wide receiver if good value presents itself in later rounds.
As of now, there is no official word from the Chiefs regarding interest in Fuller, but the move makes sense. Whether he returns as a starter or is utilized in nickel and dime packages, he could provide cost-effective veteran leadership. If the deal comes together, Fuller is likely to sign for far less than the $7.5 million annual salary he received from the Dolphins.
Kansas City has a reputation for making savvy offseason additions, and Fuller’s availability presents an intriguing possibility. If the Chiefs are looking for a proven talent without breaking the bank, a reunion with the Super Bowl-winning cornerback might be the perfect fit.
