Só cinco partidas de playoffs até este domingo haviam terminado com diferença de mais de 50 pontos. Agora, o Thunder entra no top 5 ao superar os 50 pontos de margem do Milwaukee Bucks num 136 a 86 sobre o San Francisco Warriors (hoje, Golden State Warriors) em 1971.
O recorde geral é dividido entre o Denver Nuggets, que aplicou 58 pontos de diferença num 121 a 63 sobre o New Orleans Hornets (hoje, New Orleans Pelicans) nos playoffs de 2009, e o Minneapolis Lakers (hoje, Los Angeles Lakers), que fez 133 a 75 no St Louis Hawks (hoje, Atlanta Hawks) em 1956. À frente do triunfo do Thunder neste domingo estão também vitórias dos Lakers por 56 pontos em 1973 e do Chicago Bulls por 54 em 2015.
A vitória em casa, que fez o Thunder abrir 1 a 0 na série, veio com 21 pontos de Aaron Wiggins e 20 de Jalen Willians, cestinhas da partida. No fim do segundo quarto, o Thunder já vencia por 68 a a 36. No último quarto, as principais estrelas das equipes já passaram boa parte do tempo descansando para o jogo 2, na próxima terça-feira, novamente em Oklahoma.
Curiosamente, a marca é uma espécie de vingança para OKC. No panorama geral, contando a temporada regular, a maior diferença de pontos da história da liga é justamente numa vitória dos Grizzlies sobre o Thunder por 152 a 79, em 2021. Uma margem de 73 pontos de vantagem.
