The rivalry between Tom Brady and Eli Manning is one for the ages. Considered two of the best quarterbacks of the modern era, Brady and Manning faced each other twice in the Super Bowl, with the younger Manning winning twice, and the GOAT has not been able to overcome it.
The 2007 season was historic for Brady and the New England Patriots. That year, the team finished the regular season undefeated and swept all opposition in the playoffs to reach Super Bowl XLII and face the New York Giants.
Showing poise and composure, Manning upset all odds, claiming an unlikely victory. The worst part? Two years later, Manning and his Giants repeated the same treatment for Brady’s Patriots. You’d think that 18 years later, it would all be water under the bridge, but not so, not for Tom Brady.
Don’t leave Tom alone with the label maker
A few weeks ago, Brady expanded his business empire by partnering with the trading card manufacturer and distributor CardVault. His first business move? Opening a CardVault by Tom Brady store in East Rutherford, NJ, right on Manning’s old stomping grounds. However, the worst was yet to come.
In a video posted on Instagram, CardVault shows a store employee staring at a card with an annoyed expression. The employee takes the card and goes to the back room to confront Brady, asking, “Did you put a $0 tag on Eli Manning’s card again?”
With the labeler in hand and a gesture of innocence, Brady denies everything, and the employee has no choice but to walk away, shaking his head and saying, “Unbelievable.” The incident escalated to such a degree that the company posted an apology message stating, “Tom has officially lost all price gun privileges. Sorry @elimanning.”
A 20-year friendly rivalry
Of course, this isn’t the first time these two have traded barbs. A couple of years ago, Brady posted a photo from a fishing trip, pulling his catch of the day out of the water. Manning wasted no time responding by showing a pic of himself carrying a much larger fish with the caption, “Cute minnow, Tom.”
Unlike Tom, who loves the spotlight, Eli prefers to keep a low profile. Outside of his work as an analyst, Manning doesn’t usually get involved in controversy; however, fans are eager to know how he will respond to this latest provocation. Like all those years ago, Brady fired the first salvo but Manning may have the last laugh.
