Messi‘s current team is third on the Eastern Conference standings, just behind Charlotte FC and FC Cincinnati. On six games played during the current season, Messi has three goals (leads the team alongside Venezuelan star Telasco Segovia), two assists and 29 total scoring attempts.

Lionel Messi has normalized the fact that people ask him for photos and autographs when they happen to interact with him, even if it’s for a few seconds, and that was the case this Saturday after Inter Miami defeated the Columbus Crew at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
A particular situation occurred that quickly went viral on social media. The captain of the Argentina National Team had an amusing interaction with a local policeman who did not want to miss the opportunity to take a souvenir and a picture with one of the best soccer players of all time.
The scene took place under the watchful eye of Yassine Cheuko, the soccer player’s personal bodyguard, who was supervising the situation. After the photograph was taken, another officer approached to tell Messi where did he needed to make his way out. There was no problem, but a new moment was immortalized that reflects the fervor that the world champion awakens everywhere he goes.
Messi reportedly nearing new deal with Inter Miami
Lionel Messi may be on the verge of extending his American soccer journey. The 37-year-old superstar joined Inter Miami in July 2023 and immediately transformed the club’s fortunes both on and off the field. His current deal, however, is set to expire at the end of this year, prompting a wave of speculation over his future.
But Inter Miami has been working diligently to secure an extension that would align with the club’s move to their new home, Miami Freedom Park, in time for the 2026 season. According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Inter Miami and the legendary Argentine forward are close to finalizing a contract extension that would keep Messi in Major League Soccer beyond 2024.
“My hope has always been – and everything we’re doing – is to see Messi play at our new stadium in 2026. Hopefully, that happens,” Inter Miami managing owner Jorge Mas said during an interview with FDP Radio Miami.
