One of the biggest stories of the NFL offseason has undoubtedly been the new contract agreement that is about to happen between quarterback Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers – something that, when it happens, will spark endless debate.
No matter how much it’s denied, the reality is that Brock Purdy’s agents are aiming to secure a deal worth more than $50 million per season. However, some believe that such a contract could jeopardize the future of the franchise, and with that level of investment in Purdy, the 49ers’ Super Bowl window could close.

In 2023, Purdy was fantastic, leading the 49ers to the Super Bowl. But in 2024, things turned disastrous. Despite injuries, Purdy failed in key moments during the latter part of the season, which is why handing over the keys of the franchise to him would be a big gamble.
Talks have progressed between Purdy and the front office
49ers General Manager John Lynch revealed that discussions between both parties are moving forward.
“I believe there have been substantial conversations that are moving this in a good direction, and I’ll leave it at that,” Lynch told local Bay Area media.
He also acknowledged that Purdy is a true professional, as he showed up at the team facility for the start of the offseason program, even though participation is optional for players.
“That’s just who Brock is – he’s a professional,” Lynch said about his quarterback. “Brock has a clear mind and won’t let others influence what he should do. It’s one of the things everyone respects about him. He’s done a lot for this organization, and we’re grateful, with the expectation of having him as our quarterback for a long time.”
For now, that’s the situation: Brock Purdy and the front office will reach an agreement, but the risk is high. Paying him over $50 million per season would limit the team’s resources to compete in the NFC West – a division where they finished in last place last season.
