El waterpolo femenino está en pie de guerra desde que ayer la ‘European Aquatics Water Polo’ anunciase un aumento en los premios que se repartirán entre los campeones y y campeonas. El equipo masculino que gane la Champions se llevará 125.000 euros, mientras que el campeón femenino sólo recibirá 20.000. La indignación de las jugadoras por esa brecha de 100.000 euros es patente y no se han callado. Basta con echar un vistazo a las redes sociales para ver que esta diferencia abismal ha sido una bomba.
De hecho, era el propio organismo el que anunciaba también en redes este incremento. Todo viene gracias a un acuerdo de patrocinio firmado con el grupo Wood Nest Sports y por el que el montante total aumenta en 435.000 euros.

Maica García, campeona olímpica en París 2024 y vigente campeona de la Champions con el CN Sabadell, fue una de las primeras en reaccionar y en la propia cuenta de ‘European Aquatics Water Polo’ escribió: “It’s a F… JOKE?” (¿Es una j… broma?).
Otra campeona olímpica, compañera de club y elegida la mejor jugadora del mundo en 2024, la española Bea Ortiz, también ha reaccionado en su perfil de IG escribiendo el siguiente mensaje sobre la foto que aparece arriba: “Muy triste. Es complicado para las mujeres crecer en el waterpolo de esta manera”. Y prosigue: “Escojo la lectura positiva de estas tristes y duras noticias. Gracias a estas pobres decisiones sobre la equidad en los pagos en nuestro propio deporte, las mujeres nos estamos uniendo más que nunca para luchar por lo que nos hemos ganado durante muchos años. Seguiremos trabajando como un frente unido, a través de todos los equipos y países, pero unido en la creencia de que realmente merecemos lo mismo que los hombres. Más liderazgo femenino, por favor”, reclama Ortiz.

La jugadora Lalelei Mata’Afa de la Lazio también mostró su indignación. “Así que básicamente… ¿no había espacio para aumentar el fondo de premios de las mujeres? ¡En qué mundo vivimos! Y no me vengas con lo de los números de audiencia, entendemos que los hombres tienen más audiencia… pero también la hierba es verde donde la riegas y las federaciones ELIGEN descuidar el waterpolo femenino… les ayuda a ahorrar dinero y salvar la cara diciendo ‘las mujeres no traen los números’ cuando en realidad si a las ligas femeninas se les diera respeto y se anunciaran más como los hombres, entonces traerían más audiencia/ingresos para nuestro deporte. No se nos da ni la hora ni se nos respeta”, escribió también en el post del anuncio.
