Shedeur Sanders won’t attend NFL Draft to avoid TV embarrassment, Skip Bayless says

As the 2025 NFL Draft kicks off Thursday night at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, one of the most talked-about names in college football won’t be in attendance.

Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, has turned down his invitation to the event, and at least one sports personality thinks he knows exactly why.

He will remember! Shedeur Sanders fires back at NFL teams favoring Cam Ward at the Draft

According to veteran commentator Skip Bayless, Shedeur‘s decision wasn’t just about privacy or preference-it was a move to avoid the public spectacle that can sometimes turn humiliating. On Wednesday’s episode of The Skip Bayless Show, Bayless offered his theory on Sanders’ absence, suggesting the quarterback wants no part in a potentially embarrassing draft-night slide.

“I am still convinced that Shedeur has declined that invitation… because he’s just sick and tired of all the endless negativity,” Bayless said. “And he doesn’t want to be stuck in the ‘green room’ getting shamed on national TV if he falls all the way through the first round as some are predicting he will.”

The memory of Rodgers

The “green room” drama is a familiar narrative in NFL history. Most notably, Aaron Rodgers experienced a painful slide in the 2005 NFL Draft, remaining in the green room for hours before being selected 24th overall by the Green Bay Packers.

The visual of a highly touted player sitting in solitude, surrounded by cameras and a slowly emptying room, is not an image many prospects want tied to their legacy.

For Sanders, the possibility of being snubbed in the first round has only grown more real in recent weeks.

Once regarded as a potential top-10 pick, recent evaluations by scouts and analysts have pushed Sanders into a murkier part of the draft board, with projections placing him anywhere from the late first round to mid-second round.

Ranking every NBA team’s No. 2 option in 2025-26: Where does LeBron James land among league’s best co-stars?

Anyone can list the best players in the NBA, but basketball is as much about chemistry as it is talent. Within each of the league's 30 teams is a hierarchy, and how well each of the five players on the court understands and performs his role within that hierarchy is every bit as important as his individual skill. While depth was vital to the success of the Thunder and Pacers last season, and we understand coaches often say, "It's about who closes the game; not who starts it," the pursuit of a roster's most cohesive five-man unit is still paramount. Three of last year's top four starting lineups on our list — the Thunder, Knicks and Timberwolves — reached the conference finals.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementIn this series, we rank each team's starters for a broader look across the league. Parker expects Wardley win to lead to Usyk and Itauma fights

Why Tiger Woods still means so much to so many

Golf doesn’t do field stormings. Patrons tend to hold themselves to somewhat higher standards — or somewhat more restrained expressions of emotion — than college students. Politely applaud achievement from outside the ropes, that’s the customary golf way. Except for September 23, 2018. On that day, the final day of the 2017 Tour Championship, the golf world did indeed see a field storming. As Tiger Woods walked up the 18th green at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, just a few steps away from his first victory in five years, the gallery burst right through the flimsy barrier of rope and decorum. Thousands followed in Tiger’s wake, a reverential congregation delirious with joy, gratitude and communion wine in the form of $15 beers. AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe delirium that ran through the crowd on that afternoon at East Lake was the kind of communal disbelief […]
