The New York Giantsmade the right decision, and with the third overall pick in the Draft, they selected Abdul Carter, a spectacular defensive end from Penn State. Alongside Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence, and Kayvon Thibodeaux, he will form one of the most feared defensive lines in the entire NFL.
For many, Abdul Carter was the best player available in the Draft, ahead of Cam Ward and Travis Hunter, who were selected by the Tennessee Titans and the Jacksonville Jaguars, respectively. Carter himself repeatedly stated that he was the best player in this class, and now he belongs to the New York Giants.

Abdul Carter is already the new face of the Giants’ defense
In 2024, Abdul Carter shined as a defensive end for Penn State, recording 68 tackles and 12 quarterback sacks. His performance earned him unanimous All-American honors. He was also named Defensive Player of the Year in the Big Ten, and now he looks to bring that talent to New York.
Carter joins a team that competes in the NFC East, where he will face the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington Commanders twice a year.
“I had a good idea of where I was going to go, but even then, when I got the call, it was unreal,” Carter told SNY. “It felt like everything I’ve been working for my whole life, my parents, all the sacrifices they made… I’m really grateful, really blessed.”
Now he’ll be part of a defense that shows a lot of promise with Burns, Lawrence, and Thibodeaux, so Carter is joining a talented unit and knows he must immediately align with Head Coach Brian Daboll and his teammates.
“I really want to meet those guys,” Carter told SNY. “I can’t wait to get in, meet them as people, build our relationship as teammates, and when we get on the field, we’re just going to wreak havoc.”
The last Penn State talent selected in the first round by the Giants was Saquon Barkley in 2018, and now it’s Abdul Carter’s turn.
