Mitten im Aufstiegs-Endspurt beginnt beim 1. FC Köln der Wahlkampf. Im Herbst entscheiden die Mitglieder über ihr neues Präsidium. Der erste Kandidat für die Nachfolge von Vorstandschef Werner Wolf (68) steht fest: Unternehmer Wilke Stroman (45). Der Gründer von „sparhandy.de“, der als Deutschland-Chef von „Mobilezone“ für rund 1000 Mitarbeiter verantwortlich ist, will antreten.
Schon jetzt ist klar, dass er den prominentesten Unterstützer hat, den es beim FC gibt. Lukas Podolski (39) kennt Stroman seit über zehn Jahren. Das Idol traut dem innovativen Macher zu, den FC wieder zu einem erfolgreichen Verein zu machen.
„Wilke ist ein guter Kandidat für das Amt des Präsidenten“, sagt Podolski. „Er ist ein erfolgreicher Unternehmer, liebt den FC, ist eine positiv-verrückte Persönlichkeit in unserer Stadt, engagiert sich für Kinder, macht viel im Karneval, singt in einem Männer-Chor.“ Dann erklärt der Weltmeister von 2014: „Was ich bei Wilke mag: Er packt an. Aus einer kleinen Idee hat er mit seinem Unternehmen eine riesige Sache gemacht. Er ist ein Typ, der dem Verein wirklich guttun würde. Jung, hungrig, erfolgreich.“

Deshalb legt sich der Stürmer fest: „Als Mitglied des Vereins sage ich: Wenn Wilke antritt, kriegt er meine Stimme.“
Podolski selbst hat keine Ambition auf ein Amt im nächsten Präsidium. „Der FC ist mein Verein und wird es immer bleiben. Aber momentan ist es vielleicht noch zu früh, um ein Amt zu übernehmen“, sagt Podolski, der aktuell noch für Gornik Zabrze in Polen spielt. „Ich habe noch nicht entschieden, ob ich eine weitere Saison spiele oder die aktive Karriere beende.“
Sicher ist trotzdem, dass Podolski und seine Familie weiterhin in Polen leben werden. Der ehemalige Nationalspieler: „Wir bleiben mindestens noch eineinhalb Jahre hier in Polen, weil unser ältester Sohn Louis dann seinen Schulabschluss macht. In dieser Zeit wird der FC auch ohne mich überleben wie in den letzten Jahren.“ Was danach kommt, ist offen. Podolski: „Vielleicht wachse ich in zwei, drei, fünf oder zehn Jahren in eine Rolle im Verein. Vielleicht gefällt es mir in der Südkurve als Fan aber auch so gut, dass ich gar nichts anderes beim FC machen will.“

Podolskis Wunsch: „Es muss mal ein Ruck durch den Verein gehen, damit hier alle in dieselbe Richtung marschieren: Fans, Vorstand, Mitgliederrat, Mannschaft, Geschäftsführung, Stadt. Die ständigen Machtkämpfe helfen nicht. Die sorgen nur dafür, dass wir nicht genauso erfolgreich sind wie andere Vereine in der Bundesliga mit ähnlichen Strukturen.“
Frankfurt und Gladbach etwa, die um die Champions League kämpfen statt um die Rückkehr in die Bundesliga wie Köln. Vier Spieltage vor Saisonende hat der FC als Tabellenführer fünf Punkte Vorsprung auf Relegationsplatz drei. Podolski: „Mich würde es wundern, wenn wir uns das noch nehmen lassen.“
