Das ist der nächste Transfer-Hammer in der Daikin Handball-Bundesliga. Aber auch einer, der durchaus mit Ansage kommt.
Nationalspieler Julian Köster (25) wird den VfL Gummersbach nach der Saison 2025/26 verlassen und ablösefrei zu Rekordmeister THW Kiel wechseln. Köster hat in Kiel einen Vertrag bis 2030 unterschrieben.

Handball-Star geht zum THW Kiel
Dass sich der THW Kiel seit Langem um Kösters Dienste bemüht hat, war Branchen-Kennern hinlänglich bekannt. Bereits zum Zeitpunkt seiner letzten Vertragsverlängerung in Gummersbach im Sommer 2023 stand ein Wechsel an die Ostsee im Raum. Jetzt haben beide Seiten Nägel mit Köpfen gemacht, Mitbewerber wie die Füchse Berlin gingen leer aus.
„Julian ist ein absoluter Topspieler für unser Konzept. Wir sind froh und stolz, dass wir Julian von unserem Weg begeistern konnten und er sich entschieden hat, diesen zukünftig gemeinsam mit uns zu gehen“, sagt Kiels Geschäftsführer Viktor Szilagyi, der mit dem Köster-Wechsel die nötige Verjüngungs-Kur in Kiel einläutet.
Kiels Boss weiter: „Julian haben wir natürlich seit vielen Jahren im Blick. Seine Entwicklung ist geradezu rasant. Er ist nicht nur in Gummersbach, sondern auch in der Handball-Nationalmannschaft zum absoluten Führungsspieler gereift. Und trotz seiner jungen Jahre wird er 2026 jede Menge nationale und internationale Erfahrung in unsere Mannschaft einbringen.“

Er ist defensiv wie offensiv einer der stärksten, wenn nicht sogar der stärkste deutsche Rückraumspieler. Gummersbach Boss Christoph Schindler: „Julian stand und steht sinnbildlich für den Aufschwung, den der Verein in den letzten Jahren genommen hat. Es ist kein Geheimnis, dass wir ihn sehr gerne in Gummersbach gehalten hätten, respektieren aber natürlich seine Entscheidung und wünschen ihm für seine Zukunft in Kiel alles Gute. Ich bin mir sicher, dass wir gemeinsam noch viele Punkte einfahren werden.“
