The Cleveland Browns stopped the dramatic fall of Shedeur Sandres in the NFL Draft by selecting him in the fifth round at No. 144. However, he is not the only one who had to wait to be chosen and then leave everyone with their mouths agape with his courage and talent.
The one who didn’t need to be picked No. 1 to succeed was Tom Brady himself. The legend was chosen by the New England Patriots in the sixth round of the 2000 Draft, with the 199th overall selection. Despite this, in his career, he won 7 Super Bowl rings and today, he is considered the GOAT of the NFL.

This, according to NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. is a clue to Sanders’ future, because like Brady, he is very confident and was not considered in the first picks. Although Kiper himself rated him as the 10th-best quarterback of his generation, he has a better view of “Coach Prime’s” son and gave the former Colorado player a QB1 rating, noting his accuracy and resilience.
And while Sanders’ late pick came as a surprise to everyone, pre-Draft issues during interviews was a determining factor for several teams, as he only made his presence known on Pro Day. In Brady’s case, concerns about his play and his poor results at the Combine would have argued for his fall.

This season, Shedeur and Colorado star and #2 overall draft pick Travis Hunter led Colorado Buffaloes to 9 wins and 4 losses.
This past season, Sanders completed 74% of his passes, throwing for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns.
Now, he will have to compete hard to be the Browns’ starting QB. This fight will not be easy, as he has competition: Dillon Gabriel -another rookie selected in the third round-, Kenny Pickett -a reigning Super Bowl champion with the Eagles- the injured Deshaun Watson or Joe Flacco, 40 years old.
Considering the storm he must have gone through during the Draft and the history of Tom Brady’s rise, Sanders could come out of this situation stronger and prove to the league what he is worth.
