Dabei legte der Winter-Neuzugang nach seiner Verpflichtung im Februar direkt los wie die Feuerwehr, punktete am Fließband (Bestleistung 24 Punkte gegen Göttingen), legte auf und klaute Bälle.

Nach nur wenigen Spielen in der BBL begeisterte er auch die Fans und sicherte sich praktisch aus dem Stand und mit überwältigender Zustimmung den Titel als MVP des Monats März (42,9 Prozent wählten ihn). Was für ein Raketenstart für den nur 1,75 Meter großen US-Boy!
Doch zuletzt auch bei ihm der Einbruch. Trotz der Ergebniskrise und des Formtiefs ist klar: Die Niners haben einen richtig guten Mann geholt. Der Distanz-Kunstschütze kann nämlich nicht nur werfen, sondern auch extrem gut klauen. Mit 466 Steals ist er der beste Ball-Dieb aller Zeiten in der US-College-Liga NCAA.

Am besten gleich am Mittwoch (18 Uhr live bei Dyn) im wichtigen Heimspiel gegen die MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg (12.) und anschließend im Ost-Derby am Sonntag (16.30 Uhr live und kostenlos bei WELT TV) gegen die Rostock Seawolves (6.), die aktuell den begehrten letzten Playoff-Platz innehaben.
Dann will Gilyard den Worten bei seiner Verpflichtung („Ich will mich als Anführer beweisen“) wieder Taten folgen lassen.
Mit zwei Siegen in den letzten beiden Heimspielen der Hauptrunde würde die Welt schon wieder besser aussehen. Sowohl für Chemnitz als auch für MVP Gilyard.
