Kurz nachdem Schalke bekannt gegeben hatte, dass die Zusammenarbeit mit Trainer Kees van Wonderen (56) nach Saisonende beendet wird, suchte der Mannschaftsrat um Kapitän Kenan Karaman (31) das Gespräch mit dem Niederländer. Um ihm zu versprechen: Wir geben trotzdem weiterhin alles – und lassen dich nicht hängen!
Auf dem Platz in Kaiserslautern (1:2) war davon nur bedingt etwas zu sehen. Aymen Barkok (26) muss das Versprechen allerdings völlig falsch verstanden haben. Der Mittelfeldspieler beleidigte einen Fan via Social Media („Verpiss dich du Schwanz“). Schon einige Wochen zuvor, beim Heimspiel gegen Hannover, sorgte er für riesigen Ärger, als er nach Abpfiff Co-Trainer Tim Hoogland (39) verbal anging und in der Kabine wüst pöbelte.
[–>Es passt ins Bild, das Königsblau – mal wieder – abgibt. Schon beim Umgang mit van Wonderen machte der Klub eine äußerst unglückliche Figur. Nach dem Spiel gegen den HSV (2:2) Mitte April kündigte der Trainer selbst sein Aus nach Saisonende an. Und bemängelte den Rückhalt der Bosse – vor allem nach der Partie in Regensburg (0:2) eine Woche zuvor. Es ist ein Vorgang, der belegt, wie konfus es im Tollhaus Schalke zugeht.
Jeweils montags setzen sich Vorstandsboss Matthias Tillmann (41), Sportdirektor Youri Mulder (56), Kaderplaner Ben Manga (51) und van Wonderen in der Regel zusammen, um die vergangene Begegnung sowie die sportliche Entwicklung zu analysieren. Nach der Partie in Regensburg war Tillmann jedoch auf einer Dienstreise. Van Wonderen wertete das als Vertrauensverlust. Nach der Sitzung rief Tillmann bei Mulder an, um zu fragen, ob alles besprochen sei. Mulder bejahte. Also meldete sich Tillmann auch im Nachgang nicht mehr beim Trainer, was diesem nochmals übel aufstieß. Erst nach Tagen wurde dieses Missverständnis aufgeklärt – als es im Grunde jedoch schon zu spät war.
[–>Und nun? Soll alles besser werden. So zumindest die Hoffnung der Bosse. Seit mehr als einem halben Jahr arbeiten die Verantwortlichen an einer Spielphilosophie, die vom jeweiligen Trainer umgesetzt werden soll. Nicht mehr der Coach darf von nun an die spielerische Ausrichtung vorgeben, sondern der Klub. Kernpunkte des Konzepts: Schalke will mutig, intensiv und immer mit dem Blick nach vorne spielen. Danach werden die Trainer ausgesucht.
So ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass Markus Anfang (50/zuletzt Kaiserslautern) und Tim Walter (49/zuletzt Hull City) hoch im Kurs stehen und als Favoriten auf den Job einzuordnen sind. Auch neue Spieler sollen zu dieser Philosophie passen.
