Favre soll ihr im Jahr 2008 anstößige Fotos seiner Genitalien, Voicemails und MySpace-Nachrichten geschickt haben. Zwei Jahre später machte Sterger die Anschuldigungen öffentlich.
15 Jahre danach sind die Folgen immer noch spürbar. Im Trailer zur neuen Netflix-Doku „Untold: The Fall of Favre“, in der das ruhm- und skandalreiche Leben des ehemaligen Football-Stars beleuchtet wird, sagt Sterger: „Brett Favre hat mein Leben letztendlich zerstört!“

Die Dokumentation zeigt dann zwei angebliche SMS, die am 23. August 2008 im Abstand von 16 Minuten verschickt wurden. In der Ersten, die Sterger um 22.46 Uhr erhalten haben will, steht: „Kommst du heute Abend vorbei?“ In der Zweiten heißt es: „Ich schicke dir ein Auto …“
Sterger: „Ich bekam SMS. Und dann kamen auch noch Voicemails. Ich dachte: ‚Oh, ich stecke in ernsthaften Schwierigkeiten.‘“

Für die Reporterin besonders schlimm: Favre wurde von der NFL lediglich mit einer Geldstrafe von 50.000 US-Dollar belegt, da er bei den Ermittlungen nicht kooperiert hatte. Er bestritt, anzügliche Fotos verschickt zu haben, gab aber die Voicemails zu. Er wurde von der Liga weder gesperrt, noch wurden andere Maßnahmen außer der Geldstrafe ergriffen.
Der „Sexting“-Skandal spielt eine große Rolle in der Netflix-Doku, aber auch andere Aspekte wie Favres angebliche Veruntreuung von Sozialgeldern aus Mississippi oder seine Parkinson-Erkrankung kommen zur Sprache.
Zu Favres Krankheit hat sich Sterger bereits im vergangenen Jahr deutlich geäußert. „Bitte schickt mir keine Links dazu. Ich habe es gesehen. Ich kann lesen“, schrieb sie letzten September in einer Instagram-Story. „Ich wünsche niemandem etwas Schlechtes, aber ich weiß, Karma vergisst nie eine Adresse.“
