Miguel Rodríguez, una temporada de ’10’, ‘Jugador del Mes’… y doloroso adiós al Celta

Miguel Rodríguez (Redondela, 29-4-2003) debutó con el Celta en 2020 de la mano de Óscar García Junyent. Era jovencísimo. Tenía sólo 17 años y cinco meses. 

Jugó 32 partidos (944′), marcó dos goles y repartió dos asistencias, pero la falta de oportunidades con el primer equipo le llevaron a abandonar Balaídos en verano. Se marchó cedido al FC Utrecht y, probablemente, sea para no volver.

Le costó arrancar por la falta de ritmo -jugó un par de partidos con el filial-, pero, superada una lesión inguinal que le tuvo un par de meses parado y coincidiendo con la llegada de Sébastien Haller en el mercado invernal, se ha convertido en uno de los ‘jugadores de moda’ en la Eredivisie

Su temporada es de ’10’. Literal. Acumula 10 goles, siete en Liga y tres en Copa, y cuatro asistencias. En abril se ha salido hasta el punto de que ‘ESPN’ y ‘Voetbal International’ le han designado ‘Jugador del Mes’. Y es que sus últimos cinco partidos se han saldado con cinco tantos y un pase de gol.

“Miguel irradia alegría. No juega con miedo, juega con decisión. Es muy oportunista, siempre está orientado al gol. Es un jugador realmente bonito de ver”, asegura su entrenador, Rob Jans, otrora extremo, a ‘Voetbal International’.

A destacar, sobre todo, el doblete ante el Ajax (4-0). Miguel Rodríguez puso fin al invicto ‘ajacied’ (14 partidos) con dos auténticos golazos. En el primero tiró de potencia y en el segundo de clase. Mucha clase. “Son los dos mejores goles de mi carrera”, reconocía el atacante gallego, que puede jugar de extremo por ambas bandas o en el centro del ataque.

“Tengo que ser sincero. Tienen un par de extremos que realmente están en un nivel superior”, admite el exmadridista Rafael van der Vaart en ‘Studio Voetbal’. Se refería a Miguel Rodríguez y Cathline, que han situado al Utrecht cuarto con 62 puntos, los mismos que el Feyenoord, que es tercero y ocupa la última plaza que da acceso a Champions. Una quimera que ahora es posible.

“Siento la confianza del míster. Que él fuera extremo me ayuda. Fomenta las acciones individuales, como el regate. Siempre dice: ‘Atrévete, dispara, demuestra lo que puedes hacer con balón”, asegura el español.

El Utrecht tenía hasta junio para ejercer la opción de compra, valorada en 1,5 millones de euros, que tenía sobre Miguel Rodríguez. Le sobró tiempo, ya lo ha hecho. El ‘problema’, para el Celta, es que aún puede comprar otro 30% del pase del jugador a cambio de 750.000 euros, lo que dejaría a los vigueses casi sin opción de maniobra. Tiene pinta de que lo harán.

“Creíamos que era lo mejor, que saliera, pero de cara a la temporada que viene no podemos contar con él y es una pena. Tiene nivel para estar con nosotros. Me da pena que lo perdamos, pero me alegro por él porque sé que va a dar buen rendimiento en la Eredivisie o en donde juegue. Tiene muy buenas condiciones y le viene bien tener continuidad en Primera, que hasta ahora no había tenido”, se lamentaba Claudio Giráldez.

Además de ser el cuarto jugador de la Eredivisie que promedia más goles (0,58) por cada 90 minutos de juego, Miguel Rodríguez pasa por ser el segundo que más disparos realiza por 90 minutos (4,06) y el noveno que más acciones de gol genera.

La duda es saber cuánto tiempo durará ahora en Utrecht. “Han comprado a Miguel y Cathline, pero temen que haya tantas ofertas que acaben marchándose. Son jugadores muy interesantes. Miguel viene del Celta. Me pregunto si podría dejar huella si fuera directamente a Feyenoord o Ajax. Creo que sí. Pero le vendría bien un paso intermedio. Se ve que el chico tiene calidad”, apunta Valentijn Driessen, uno de los periodistas más reconocidos del país, en ‘Kick-off’.

Más allá de fichar por un ‘grande’ o de colarse ne Champions con el FC Utrecht, hay un objetivo que Miguel Rodríguez tiene entre ‘ceja y ceja’. El español, internacional sub 19, acaba de cumplir 22 años y sueña con dar el ‘salto’ a la sub 21 y por qué no formar parte de la lista de Santi Denia para el Europeo sub 21 de este verano.

Crecimiento personal

Salir de Redondela y abandonar su ‘zona de confort’ no le ha venido bien a Miguel Rodríguez sólo como futbolista. También ha crecido como persona. “He tenido que aprender muchas lecciones. Soy responsable de pagar la casa donde vivo o de que se compre la comida para la cena”, advierte.
