Elogios do comandante

Zinho destaca solidez do Palmeiras

Pressure is on Cavs to play Darius Garland as trickle-down effect showed in Game 1 loss

CLEVELAND — The first pressure point of the postseason is here for the Cleveland Cavaliers. It arrived perhaps sooner than anticipated but there’s no time to worry about that now. If the Cavs were trying to sit Darius Garland until they lost in an effort to give his painful toe injury more time to heal, it was a prudent strategy. But time is also up. The Cavs are in a 1-0 series hole they didn’t see coming after losing Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, 121-112 to the Indiana Pacers. The Cavs sure could use Garland back on the floor for Game 2. AdvertisementThe Pacers have played fast all season and this was no different. The 99.5 pace rating in Game 1 was higher than all but one of their games in the first-round series victory against the Milwaukee Bucks and […]

Game 34 just isn’t for the New York Mets. The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Mets 5-4 in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Busch Stadium in Missouri. When Mikel Arteta was a Paris Saint-Germain player: ‘The guy is a born leader’

Edouard Cisse can still remember the surprise among Paris Saint-Germain’s star-studded squad in January 2001 when manager Luis Fernandez signed a teenager who had never played senior football on an 18-month loan.“We wondered why he had gone looking for a kid like him,” Cisse tells The Athletic. “The first training session he made us understand why, no joke. He knew how to play the famous rondo and never went in the middle once.”AdvertisementHolding your own in training is one thing, but debuting as an 18-year-old in the Champions League against Milan, whose players included Paolo Maldini, Demetrio Albertini, Andriy Shevchenko and Oliver Bierhoff, is another. But Cisse remembers the moment he knew his new young team-mate, Mikel Arteta, his midfield partner in both games, was not going to be overawed.“I remember the ball bouncing in the air towards him in the first […]
