El quinto y decisivo encuentro entre Panathinaikos y Anadolu Efes no decepcionó. El rey defenderá su corona en la Final Four de Abu Dhabi tras un encuentro descomunal de Cedi Osman (28 puntos, 8 rebotes, 4/7 en triples) y un Jerian Grant que hizo, de nuevo, una masterclass defensiva. El Panathinaikos venció al Efes en el OAKA (75-67) y su rival en semifinales será el Fenerbahçe.
El partido se le puso de cara a los griegos que trituraron al Efes con un Osman imperial en la anotación y un Juancho reboteando y defendiendo en ambas zonas. Los de Ataman llegaron a ponerse 20 puntos arriba (36-16 min.15) pero el Efes recortó con un 20-5 de parcial para llegar a falta de tres minutos del final con opciones (63-58). Discreto partido de Larkin y aún peor el de Poirier que estuvo muy superado en todo momento.
Ambientazo en el OAKA. Efes y Panathinaikos se disputaban el último billete a la Final Four. El ambiente como siempre: muy caliente. Todo un infierno griego el que se le venía a los turcos y así fue en buena parte de la primera mitad. Vendaval de los de Ataman, sobre todo en dos nombres: Osman y Juancho. El alero turco anotó 12 de los 18 puntos de su equipo en el primer cuarto. Exhibición. 17-10 min.9 y Juancho con 3 puntos, 5 rebotes y 1 tapón. Descomunal en ambas zonas.

El Panathinaikos salió al segundo cuarto como terminó el primero. Empezaron a entrar en juego los Nunn, Sloukas.. y el Efes siguió con esos pésimos porcentajes en el tiro de dos –10/30 en la primera parte-. Los griegos siguieron a sus anchas: cerrando el rebote en defensa y en ataque, corriendo la pista y moviendo el balón con mucha rapidez de lado a lado. 34-13 al 5:30 del segundo cuarto. El Efes reaccionó porque no le quedaba otra y metieron un parcial de 13-0 (36-26) para reengancharse al partido. Llegaron a perder por 20…
Muy erráticos los dos equipos en el inicio del tercer cuarto. Llegaron a pasar tres minutos (7:25) hasta que Smits anotara un triple para romper la sequía. El Efes remontó un 20-5 de parcial y metía miedo al Panathinaikos. Juancho seguía con su gran partido, (hasta su lesión por un tirón) capturando su décimo rebote y Nunn con un pobre 2/9 en triples en el 3:20 del tercer cuarto. No hubo mucha aportación desde el banquillo de ‘Pana’ ya que los suplentes sólo fueron capaces de anotar seis puntos en los primeros 30 minutos.

El triple de Mitoglou sobre la bocina (53-46) en el final del tercer cuarto hizo estallar al OAKA. Nos íbamos al cuarto asalto en el que los dos equipos estuvieron fallones en el tiro. El Panathinaikos perdió 15 balones. Menos ataque pero más defensa, muy intensa en zona y en el marcaje al hombre.
Cedi Osman siguió con su partido de MVP hasta los 28 puntos y 8 rebotes, cerca del doble doble. Poirier y Nunn acabaron expulsados por faltas. Discreto partido de ambos. Un triple de Larkin (63-58 min.17) dio esperanzas a los de Banchi pero una canasta del propio Nunn y dos tiros libres de Sloukas sentenciaron la eliminatoria. El Panathinaikos acabó con el sueño del Efes e irá a la Final Four de Dubái a revalidar su corona europea.
