In the AFC West, the spotlight is on the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes. They are the clear favorites in the division, ahead of the Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, and Denver Broncos.
The Chiefs have won the division six consecutive times; however, the other teams have slowly started to raise their level. The Broncos took a step forward and made the playoffs, the Chargers have a very talented quarterback, and the Raiders have shifted their culture this year under Pete Carroll and Geno Smith.

In the case of the Chargers, they are a team with talent and a coach like Jim Harbaugh who can position them as contenders in the AFC. However, they still need to make a playoff breakthrough. Last year, they were eliminated in the Wild Card round by the Texans.
Jim Harbaugh has a goal with Justin Herbert
There’s no doubt that Justin Herbert is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. He’s incredibly talented but still needs to shine in the postseason. Even so, Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh was very clear-he woke up one day with a goal in mind for the former Oregon Ducks quarterback.

“I woke up the other day and said, ‘I got to get Justin Herbert to the Hall of Fame. Must get Justin Herbert to the Hall of Fame,'” Harbaugh said last week on the Rich Eisen Show, according to the team’s official website. “It’s one of those things that comes to you at 3:30 or 4 in the morning. Sometimes, that’s when your best ideas happen.”
However, there’s still a lot of work ahead. Last year, in their first season together, the Chargers finished with an 11-6 record, earning a playoff spot.
Herbert attempted 504 passes-the fewest in any of his five seasons in which he played more than 13 games. He completed 65.9 percent of those throws for 3,870 yards, with 23 touchdowns and just three interceptions, a career low.
Now for this season, it’s expected that Justin Herbert will have more options. With a revamped running game featuring veteran Najee Harris and first-round pick Omarion Hampton, the idea is to take pressure off Herbert and make him even more dangerous for opposing defenses.
