Savannah James turned heads at the 2025 Met Gala, making a show-stopping solo debut on May 5, hours after NBA superstar LeBron James announced he’d miss the event due to a playoff injury. The entrepreneur and style icon, 38, owned the red carpet in a stunning Hanifa gown, proving she’s a fashion force in her own right.

A fashion icon! Savannah James spice things up with Lebron James with a bold outfit

Savannah’s Met Gala Moment

LeBron, an honorary chair for the 2025 Met Gala, was set to join co-chairs Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour for the event, themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” with a “Tailored for You” dress code. The exhibit draws inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. But a knee injury sidelined the Lakers star, leaving Savannah to shine solo.

Savannah dazzled in a burgundy Hanifa gown, featuring a pinstripe jacket with exposed boning and a dramatic mermaid-style skirt. Her look perfectly embodied the night’s theme, blending tailored elegance with bold flair, cementing her as a Met Gala standout.

Game Recap: Timberwolves 116, Lakers 113

LeBron’s Last-Minute Absence

LeBron’s absence came as a shock, especially after his October announcement as an honorary chair. The Los Angeles Lakers’ first-round playoff exit against the Minnesota Timberwolves, coupled with a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee sustained on April 30, forced him to skip the event. He shared his disappointment on X, writing, “Unfortunately because of my knee injury I sustained at the end of the season I won’t be able to attend the Met Gala in NY tonight… Hate to miss an historical event!”

Ever the supportive husband, LeBron praised Savannah, calling her his “beautiful powerful Queen” who would “hold the castle down” on the red carpet.

A Family of Trailblazers

Despite the playoff loss, LeBron made history this season by sharing the court with his son, Bronny James, 20, marking the first father-son duo in NBA history to play together for the Lakers. Reflecting on the milestone, LeBron told reporters, “Playing with Bronny was No. 1 for sure. It’s not even close. He’s a great kid with a bright future, and I have a lot to do with that.”

LeBron, who also shares Bryce Maximus, 17, and Zhuri Nova, 10, with Savannah, remains undecided on retirement. “I’ll sit down with my family, my wife, and my support group to talk about how long I want to play,” he said post-season.
