Im Viertelfinal-Play-off-Spiel schied Bregenz knapp aus und gibt die Schuld dem Gegner. Denn deren Spieler Ivan Horvat (32) haut dem Bregenzer Spielmacher Markus Mahr (24) in der 42. Minute (Stand 20:20) die Hand brutal mitten ins Gesicht. Mahr, der im Sommer zu Noch-Bundesligist VfL Potsdam wechselt, erleidet einen offenen, mehrfachen Nasenbein-Bruch, muss blutüberströmt ins Krankenhaus gebracht werden – Not-OP.
Schlimme Bilder (Instagram Bregenz) auf dem Handball-Parkett, die keiner sehen will. Was passiert jetzt mit Schläger Horvat (spielte von 2016 bis 2018 für Flensburg)? Der sah im Spiel sofort Rot und die Schiris zeigten auch die seltene Blaue Karte. Zur Erklärung: Die Blaue Karte wird zusätzlich zur Roten Karte angezeigt, wenn ein Spieler aufgrund eines besonders schweren Vergehens (z.B. Tätlichkeit, grobes unsportliches Verhalten) auch für das nächste Spiel gesperrt werden soll.

SPORT BILD erreichte den Geschäftsführer der Handball Ligen Austria (HLA). Handball-Boss Christoph Edelmüller (43/früher selbst Spieler) sagt zu dem Fall: „Die Verletzung von Markus Mahr ist ganz bitter und schrecklich für ihn als Handballer. Nicht nur, weil er in diesem wichtigen Spiel für die Bregenzer ausgefallen ist, sondern jetzt auch bei der österreichischen Nationalmannschaft fehlt.“
[–>Edelmüller ergänzt: „Ansonsten kann und will dazu gar nicht so viel sagen, weil sich damit jetzt unsere Rechtsinstanzen, der Strafsenat, damit beschäftigen und die liegen beim Österreichischen Handballbund, dem ÖHB. Aber so weit ich informiert bin, rechnen wir damit, dass heute oder spätestens am Mittwoch das Strafmaß öffentlich bekannt gegeben wird.“
Die Österreicher müssen am Mittwoch (18 Uhr, ORF live) in der Türkei zur EM-Quali ran, leider ohne den zukünftigen Potsdamer Markus Mahr.
Aus Sicht der Bregenzer muss der brutale Schlag Konsequenzen haben. Für Geschäftsführer Björn Tyrner ist klar, Horvat muss mehr als ein Spiel gesperrt werden. In einem offiziellen Statement schreibt der Klub: „Wir möchten betonen: Das war nicht die erste gefährliche Aktion dieses Spielers gegen uns.“
