Zwei Nachrichten sorgten vergangene Woche für ein Bayern-Basketball-Beben.

Erst verkündete Geschäftsführer Marko Pesic (48) seinen Rückzug zum Jahresende, dann kündigte Trainer Gordon Herbert (66) an, 2026 Nationaltrainer in Kanada zu werden. Präsident Herbert Hainer (70) spricht über die Folgen.

SPORT BILD: Herr Hainer, Marko Pesic war und ist seit 14 Jahren das Gesicht der Bayern-Basketballer. Wer soll diese Rolle jetzt übernehmen?

Herbert Hainer (70): Marko ist der Architekt des Erfolges und verkörpert den Bayern-Basketball wie kein anderer. Aber alles hat eben seine Zeit. Und in Dragan Tarlac haben wir einen ehemaligen NBA-Spieler als Nachfolger, der jetzt in diese Rolle für den sportlichen Bereich vorrückt. Er war bislang bewusst zurückhaltend, aber das wird sich ändern. Mit seiner Vita kennt er das Geschäft in- und auswendig, nicht nur als Spieler, sondern auch als Sportdirektor beim serbischen Verband. Zudem sind wir im Klub breit aufgestellt. Wir haben Weltmeister wie Andi Obst und Jo Voigtmann, die noch stärker in Erscheinung treten werden. Außerdem hat sich Marko nicht komplett verabschiedet und bleibt Berater. Er wird immer im Bayern-Kosmos bleiben.

Pesic begründete seinen Entschluss damit, dass ihm momentan die mentale und physische Kraft fehle. Wenn diese wieder da ist, ist dann eine Rückkehr denkbar?

Das muss Marko selbst entscheiden. Zunächst hat er seinen Vertrag noch einmal um ein halbes Jahr verlängert, um den Übergang sauber hinzukriegen. Und ab Januar 2026 will er sich ein Jahr Auszeit nehmen. Was in ein, zwei Jahren ist, wird man sehen. Dass er etwa nach Dubai geht, hat er ja ganz klar verneint.

[–>Das heißt, außer Tarlac wird kein neuer Sportdirektor kommen?

Das würde ich so nicht sagen. Im Moment verfügen wir in Marko und Dragan über zwei absolute Experten. Wie sich das Ganze entwickelt, schauen wir uns an. Wenn wir feststellen, wir brauchen noch jemanden, dann holen wir einen.

Zwei Tage nach der Pesic-­Meldung kam die Nachricht, dass Ihr Trainer Gordon Herbert ab Sommer 2026 Nationaltrainer von Kanada wird. Wann haben Sie davon erfahren?

Auch am vergangenen Donnerstag, so wie alle anderen.

Hätten Sie nicht erwartet, vorher davon zu erfahren?

Vom generellen Interesse aus Kanada wussten wir im Verein. Aber Gordon Herbert hat ja inzwischen eingeräumt, dass die Kommunikation nicht ganz glücklich lief. Dabei möchte ich es belassen.

Herbert hat gesagt, dass er sich sehr gut ab 2026 eine Doppelfunktion als Trainer von Bayern und Kanada vorstellen kann. Können Sie sich das auch vorstellen?

Es ist viel zu früh, das zu beantworten. Erst mal haben wir die Play-offs in dieser Saison zu spielen und dann eine weitere Saison vor uns. Wir werden uns genau anschauen, wie sich alles entwickelt.

Herbert kam als Weltmeistertrainer mit viel Vorschusslorbeeren. Hat sich die Verpflichtung gelohnt?

Ich denke schon. Wir spielen einen deutlich attraktiveren Basketball. Die Euroleague lief sehr gut, in der Bundesliga haben wir alle Möglichkeiten. Und die Spieler schwärmen von Gordon Herbert. Natürlich war es für ihn auch eine Umstellung. Am Ende der Saison werden wir weit mehr als 80 Spiele absolviert haben. Aber insgesamt passt es sehr gut zwischen Mannschaft, Verein und Herbert.

Nur das Halbfinal-Aus im Pokal trübt die Stimmung …

Es gab viel Licht, aber auch ein bisschen Schatten. Das Aus im Pokal-Halbfinale gehört dazu. Viel Licht gab es im europäischen Wettbewerb. Wir haben eine fantastische Euroleague-Saison gespielt. Wir haben den SAPGarden angezündet. Wir konnten 20 Spiele gewinnen, und das in einer Liga, die so stark war wie noch nie. Ich bin mit unserem Abschneiden dort sehr zufrieden, auch wenn wir es am Ende nicht ganz in die Play-offs geschafft haben.

Und in der Bundesliga? Immerhin gab es dort schon acht Niederlagen …

Trotzdem sind wir Tabellenführer. Daher will ich nicht meckern. Teilweise hatten wir einige Verletzte und nicht einmal 48 Stunden Pause zwischen dem Euroleague-Spiel und dem nächsten Bundesliga-Spiel. Da muss man sicherlich über den Spielplan nachdenken.

Die Euroleague-Belastung fällt jetzt weg. Ist der Deutsche Meistertitel Pflicht?

Ja, definitiv. Natürlich wollen wir Deutscher Meister werden.

Was ist mittelfristig das Ziel in Europa?

Unser Anspruch ist es, zu den besten acht Teams in Europa zu gehören. Natürlich wollen wir auch mal ins Final Four kommen. Und wenn man da steht, ist alles möglich.
