Mittelfeld-Star Ryan Gravenberch feierte vor wenigen Tagen den zweiten großen Titel seiner Karriere: Mit Liverpool gewann er vier Spieltage vor Schluss die Premier League – es ist der vorläufige Höhepunkt seines Aufstiegs unter Trainer Arne Slot!

Dass er im Mittelfeld des englischen Meisters brillieren würde, stand nicht immer fest. Vor seiner Zeit an der Anfield Road spielte der Niederländer für den FC Bayern München. Dort kam er nie richtig in Schwung. Ein Ex-Bayern-Funktionär packt jetzt über die Gründe aus.

Marco Neppe (38), ehemaliger Technischer Direktor von Bayern München, hat nach eigener Aussage nie an Gravenberchs Fähigkeiten gezweifelt. Doch unglückliche Umstände verhinderten seinen Durchbruch im Dress der Bayern, sagte er in einem Interview mit „Sky Sports“.

Trotz der schwierigen Saison an der Säbener Straße sei Neppe immer überzeugt gewesen, dass Gravenberch anderswo Erfolg haben würde. „Ich bin super glücklich für Ryan“, so Neppe. „Er ist ein besonderer Mittelfeldspieler.“

Als der niederländische Nationalspieler von Ajax verpflichtet wurde, seien die Bayern-Bosse „zu 100 Prozent“ von ihm überzeugt. Neppe: „Ehrlich gesagt, haben wir nie an seinen Qualitäten gezweifelt. Wir wussten, dass er es eines Tages zeigen würde. Wir sahen genau das, was er jetzt bei Liverpool zeigt. Aber manchmal braucht man eben Geduld. Auch seine erste Saison bei Liverpool war nicht einfach“, so der 38-Jährige.

Am Ende Gravenberchs eine von vielen Geschichten im Fußball, so Neppe. „Es ist eine Frage des richtigen Timings. Es gibt viele solcher Momente im Fußball, wo große Karrieren beginnen, weil ein anderer Spieler verletzt ist und sie ihre Chance bekommen und nutzen.“

Auch Bayern-Star Alphonso Davies sei ein gutes Beispiel. „Sein Start bei Bayern war der Verletzung von David Alaba und Lucas Hernandez geschuldet. Er bekam seine Gelegenheit. Aber es ist keine Glückssache. Auf lange Sicht zeigen diese Spieler immer ihre Qualität.“

Bayern: Nur 3 Startelf-Einsätze für Gravenberch

Bei den Bayern kam der 22-Jährige in der Saison 2022/23 auf lediglich drei Bundesliga-Starts. Trotz großer Erwartungen nach seinem Wechsel von Ajax konnte er sich gegen erfahrene Mittelfeldspieler wie Leon Goretzka und Joshua Kimmich nicht durchsetzen. 15 Monate nach seiner Ankunft durfte er den Verein wieder verlassen.

Auch in Anfield erlebte Gravenberch eine schwierige erste Saison, während er sich an die neue Spielweise in der Premier League anpasste. Er startete nur in zwölf Ligaspielen und agierte meist als Backup im Mittelfeld. Seit seinem Wechsel in die Defensive unter Arne Slot blüht Gravenberch jedoch auf. Seine Partnerschaft mit Alexis Mac Allister – ein entscheidender Faktor für Liverpools 20. Meistertitel.
