Die deutsche Handball-Nationalmannschaft hat die erste Niederlage seit zehn Jahren in der EM-Qualifikation in letzter Sekunde abgewendet – aber denkbar knapp. Das DHB-Team kommt gegen die Schweiz nicht über ein 32:32 hinaus.
Zuvor hatte die deutsche Mannschaft das Ticket für die Europameisterschaft 2026 in Dänemark, Schweden und Norwegen schon gelöst.

Der einzige deutsche Spieler, der dem Schweizer Tempospiel einigermaßen etwas entgegensetzen kann, ist Andreas Wolff. Der Torwart-Titan vom THW Kiel verhindert, dass die deutsche Mannschaft zur Pause nicht noch weiter zurückliegt.

Kurios: Am Sonntag in Stuttgart beim letzten Quali-Spiel gegen die Türkei (18 Uhr/ARD Livestream) wird es einen seltenen Wolff-Wechsel geben.

Trotz Wolff geht es mit einem 14:11 geht es in die Pause. Und auch in der 2. Halbzeit werden die Sorgenfalten von Bundestrainer Alfred Gislason immer tiefer. Die Schweiz rennt weiterhin vorneweg, Deutschland hinterher.
Immerhin eine schöne Nachricht: Rechtsaußen Mathis Häseler aus Gummersbach erzielt bei seinem DHB-Debüt gleich drei Treffer.
Doch das Gislason-Team kämpft sich in den Schlussminuten noch stark zurück. Ein 7-Meter von Juri Knorr in den letzten Sekunden bringt noch den erhofften Ausgleich.
Glück für den DHB: Die Schweiz hätte einen Kantersieg gebraucht, um an ihnen vorbeizuziehen. So haben sie zwei Punkte Vorsprung und das klar bessere Torverhältnis.
Am Donnerstag geht es für die DHB-Auswahl um 10 Uhr mit dem Bus von Winterthur nach Ludwigsburg weiter. Am Sonntag steht in Stuttgart das letzte Quali-Spiel gegen die Türkei an (18 Uhr).

Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival moved from Tuesday in latest changes
Cheltenham has announced some tweaks to the Festival running order, with the Grade One Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle moving from Tuesday’s card to Thursday.The contest has taken place on Champion Hurdle day since 2009 but will now feature on the third day of the fixture, sharing top billing with the Ryanair Chase and Paddy Power Stayers' Hurdle and switching to the New course which means the race distance will edge up to just over two and a half miles, rather than the previous trip of just under that mark. The mares' contest will take place at 2.40pm, with the Stayers' Hurdle being run at 3.20 and the Ryanair Chase starting at 4pm.
