A namorada de um dos pilotos que morreram em decorrência de uma batida com 11 motos durante uma etapa do campeonato britânico de Supersport já havia perdido outro companheiro em circunstâncias semelhantes, nove anos atrás. O acidente desta segunda-feira matou o neozelandês Shane Richardson, parceiro de Hannah James, com quem teve dois filhos. Para homenagear o piloto, a mulher trocou a foto de seus perfis nas redes sociais para uma dele, em preto e branco.

Foi a segunda vez que Hannah lamentou a perda de um companheiro num acidente de moto. Em 2016, durante uma prova da Oliver’s Mount Spring Cup, em North Yorkshire, seu então parceiro Billy Redmayne sofreu um acidente. Ele chegou a ser levado para um hospital da região com grave ferimento na cabeça, mas foi declarado morto pouco depois.
Naquele ano, o próprio Shane Richardson prestou homenagens a Billy Redmayne. Ele postou uma foto ao lado do amigo e de Hannah James, que se tornaria sua mulher na sequência.
“Como tudo pode mudar rápido. Nunca vou esquecer o breve tempo que passamos juntos, correndo e ficando mais bêbados do que nunca! Descanse em paz, Billy, continue aí em cima”, escreveu ele.
Além de Richardson, o britânico Owen Jenner também não resistiu aos ferimentos na batida desta segunda-feira. Um terceiro competidor ficou gravemente ferido.
Um vídeo que circula nas redes sociais mostra o momento da batida, na primeira volta do circuito de Oulton Park, em Cheshire, no Noroeste do Reino Unido.
De acordo com o organizador da corrida, Motorsport Vision Racing (MSVR), Jenner, de 21 anos, morreu em consequência de um “traumatismo craniano catastrófico”, enquanto Richardson, de 29, ficou “gravemente” ferido no peito e faleceu antes de chegar ao hospital.
Um terceiro piloto, o britânico Tom Tunstall, de 47 anos, também foi levado ao hospital com “ferimentos significativos nas costas e abdominais”, disse a MSVR.
Cinco outros pilotos receberam tratamento com ferimentos leves, e apenas três saíram ilesos.
A corrida foi suspensa e o resto do programa foi cancelado. A British Supersport é uma categoria inferior à British Superbike, o campeonato britânico de referência para motocicletas de pista.
