Überraschungen gab es diese Saison in der Easycredit Basketball Bundesliga eine ganze Menge. Der Syntainics MBC gewann zum ersten Mal den Pokal, die ehemaligen Abstiegskandidaten Rostock Seawolves und MLP Academics Heidelberg mauserten sich zu ernsthaften Play-off-Kandidaten.
Aber was Jesus Ramirez (45) beim Tabellen-Vierten Löwen Braunschweig bewegt, wurde bei der Wahl zum „Trainer des Jahres“ jetzt sogar als noch größere Leistung ausgezeichnet: Der Katalane erhielt 30,56 Prozent der Stimmen – und setzte sich bei der Abstimmung knapp gegen Heidelbergs Danny Jansson (45/27,78 %) und MBC-Coach Janis Gailitis (40/18,06 %) durch.
Stimmberechtigt waren die Kapitäne und Assistenz-Trainer der 17 Klubs, ausgewählte Medienvertreter sowie ehemalige BBL-Profis.
[–>Das macht auch NBA-Star Dennis Schröder (31/Detroit Pistons) stolz. Der Weltmeister ist Hauptgesellschafter der Löwen und einer der Ideen-Geber für den Braunschweiger Weg.
Der Klub machte aus seinem kleinen Etat (2,166 Mi. Euro) eine Tugend und fördert seit Jahren konsequent Talente aus Deutschland und Europa. Auch diese Saison haben die Braunschweiger das jüngste Team der BBL am Start!

Ramirez und seinem Coaching-Team gelingt es jedes Jahr aufs Neue, aus den Rohdiamanten europäische Top-Spieler zu schleifen.
Aus der Braunschweiger Talent-Schmiede stammen etwa Weltmeister David Krämer (28/Teneriffa), Jilson Bango (26/Saragossa) oder die Zwillinge Brandon (Ludwigsburg) und Nicholas Tischler (24/Chemnitz). Im aktuellen Team stechen Barra Njie (24), Luka Scuka (22) und der als bester U22-Spieler ausgezeichnete Sananda Fru (21) hervor. Die Top-Leistungen von Fru sprachen sich bis in die USA herum – er wechselt im Sommer ans renommierte College von Louisville (Kentucky).
Ramirez begann in Deutschland 2011 im Nachwuchs von Ratiopharm Ulm und ist seit 2021 Chef-Trainer an der Oker. Davor arbeitete er vier Jahre in Ungarn und Polen.
MVP erneut orange!: Chemnitzer Urgestein holt BBL-Titel
Trotz Angeboten aus dem Ausland verlängerte Ramirez im Januar vorzeitig seinen Vertrag bis 2027. Der Motorrad-Freak (bekam sein erstes Bike mit drei Jahren!) sagte damals: „Meine Frau Elena, unsere beiden Kinder Marc und Abril und ich sind sehr glücklich, unser Leben als Braunschweiger fortzusetzen. Nach vier Jahren hier können wir uns keinen besseren Ort zum Leben vorstellen. Das Gefühl, ein Teil dieser Stadt und dieser Organisation zu sein und die Tatsache, dass wir Löwen sind, ist wirklich etwas Besonderes für uns.“
Die letzte fehlende Auszeichnung ist der MVP der Saison. Der „wertvollste Spieler“ wird ebenfalls noch in dieser Woche verkündet.
