Der SC Magdeburg warf Ungarn-Gigant Veszprem (26:26/ 28:27) raus und spielt am 14. Juni in Köln im Halbfinale der Champions League gegen den Titelverteidiger FC Barcelona.
Der Europatraum lebt – und in der Liga ist die Titelverteidigung noch realistisch!
Mit 41:11 Punkten und zwei Spielen weniger, ist der Meister weiter voll im Rennen. Das Spitzenduo Berlin und Melsungen (je 46:10) ist zum Greifen nah. Bennet Wiegert (43) bleibt cool – und lobt die Konkurrenz. Der Trainer: „Die beiden geben sich keine Blöße. Das nervt nicht – im Gegenteil. Beide machen einen tollen Job.“
[–>Aber: Weil Magdeburg immer hinterherziehen muss, ist jeder Patzer tabu! Wiegert: „Wir können uns nichts erlauben. Aber ich glaube: Wenn wir unser Ding machen, ist in dieser Saison alles möglich.“
Das Veszprem-Wunder? Für Wiegert nur die halbe Miete. Denn: Danach in der Liga so souverän gegen Hamburg (37:28) nachzulegen, war der nächste Beweis für die Reife seiner Mannschaft. Wiegert: „Es war wichtig zu zeigen, dass wir kein Team sind, das wellenartig unterwegs ist. Der Wille war immer da.“

Auch nach der Länderspielpause will der SCM sofort wieder da sein – im Titel-Endspurt zählt jedes Spiel! Am 19. Mai kommt der Tabellendritte Hannover zum Vierten SCM. Wiegert: „Wir wollen den Druck hochhalten – vor allem bei uns selbst. Dann können wir vielleicht noch mehrere solcher tollen Wochen erleben.“
Fazit: Magdeburg ist heiß auf den nächsten Coup. In Europa – und zuhause.
