The first DS Nº8 could only be for the President of the French Republic. Emmanuel Macron has just inaugurated, on the occasion of the commemoration of May 8 (the date that marks the day of the Allies’ victory over Nazi Germany), a new car: the DS N°8 Presidential.
The new SUV of Macron is a unique piece, not because it has the specific characteristics of a presidential car, but because it is the first 100% electric car to fulfill this representative role
The interior is full of details specific to the presidential car.
The battery of the DS N°8 Presidential (almost 100 kWh) is capable of storing enough energy to travel up to 750 kilometers on a single charge. Its electric motors deliver 245 horsepower, but with the instant torque delivery that allows it to offer much better acceleration than one might expect from its power figure.

Based on the DS 8, French craftsmen have given it a special touch of distinction to its interior to match its exclusivity to the importance of its owner. On the outside, it adopts a sapphire blue body colour similar to that of Macron’s previous car, with the French flag on the front and rear and the flag holders on the two front corners.
A handcrafted interior
Inside, various artisan companies have gone to great lengths to personalize the presidential limousine: there are panels of rye straw marquetry, others covered in satin, seats upholstered in Alcantara and nappa leather in Dream Blue specific to the presidential car although, of course, with the watch strap pattern that we already know in conventional production DS.
For the armoring, DS Automobiles turned to French specialist Centigon; Automotive Cells Company is the supplier of the battery and Focal was responsible for designing a specific audio system for the DS No. 8 Presidential.
The French electric SUV takes over as the President of the Republic’s vehicle from the DS 7 Elysee, which was assigned to Macron in 2021. Previously, his first car had been the DS 7 Crossback Presidential. The French brand has a seven-decade tradition of motorizing the country’s top leaders.
As for the rest of us mere mortals, we’ll have to wait until September 2025 to drive a conventional DS Nº8.
