The Las Vegas Raiders‘ 2025 NFL Draft has drawn comparisons to one of the most pivotal moments in football history, with Tom Brady playing a role eerily similar to that of his former coach, Bill Belichick, 25 years ago. So you can say he learned from his former coach very well.
Brady, now a minority owner of the Raiders, reportedly pushed for the selection of North Dakota State quarterback Cam Miller in the sixth round, a move that some analysts are calling the “steal of the year”. Raiders general manager John Spytek revealed that Brady was impressed with Miller’s throwing mechanics and believed he had the potential to improve. Miller, a proven winner with two FCS national championships, joins a quarterback room that also includes Aidan O’Connell and fellow rookie Tommy Mellott.
NFL experts Andrew Mize and Nick Rudman have praised the Raiders’ decision, calling Miller a player Raider Nation should keep an eye on. While Smith remains the presumed starter, Brady’s endorsement of Miller has fueled speculation about the team’s long-term plans at quarterback.
As the Raiders enter a new era under Brady’s influence, the question remains: Could history repeat itself? If Miller develops into a legitimate contender, Smith may find himself in a situation reminiscent of Bledsoe’s two decades ago.
