George Pickens received a serious and strong four-word message about what he can expect in Dallas, and it didn’t come from Jerry Jones

The Dallas Cowboys have made a splash in the NFL offseason, acquiring wide receiver George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers in a surprising trade that has fans buzzing. Announced on May 7, the move fulfills hints dropped by owner Jerry Jones earlier in the year, when he teased a potential big addition despite not drafting a wide receiver.

It definitely was a big-time thought, but the train has not left the station,” Jones said at a presser, hinting at a free agency move. That prediction came true as Pickens, leaving behind the Steelers’ black and gold, now dons the Cowboys’ white and blue.

Pickens joins forces with All-Pro receiver CeeDee Lamb, forming a dynamic duo that could elevate Dallas’ offense to new heights. The 24-year-old expressed his excitement about the pairing, stating, “CeeDee is a super dynamic receiver, super dynamic person, player-I just feel like schematically you won’t be able to double everybody, so that’ll be a great thing for me and him.”

The Cowboys welcomed Pickens warmly, with Charlotte Jones, vice president and chief brand officer, sharing an Instagram story featuring a photo of Pickens with Jerry Jones, herself, and her husband, Amir Rozwadowski. She captioned it, “Welcome to the family!” signaling big expectations for the young receiver.

Pickens wants a fresh start in Dallas

Pickens, for his part, is thrilled to be in Dallas. “I feel great, I like the mojo here. I like the swag,” he said at a recent presser, adding, “I feel like they have a great thing going for sure.” His jerseys are already flying off digital shelves, though fans will need to wait for his number assignment before they ship. The trade, which saw the Cowboys send a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick to Pittsburgh for Pickens and a 2027 sixth-round pick, marks a fresh start for the receiver after a rocky tenure with the Steelers.

The trade’s backstory points to tensions in Pittsburgh. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had previously called out Pickens, saying he “has got to grow up” after an incident last season where Pickens grabbed Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis by the facemask during a Week 5 game.

Steelers GM Omar Khan explained, “A fresh start made sense for everyone,” noting the deal came together quickly after conversations with Pickens’ agent. Tomlin, however, remained tight-lipped, stating, “I’m not going to add any color to it.” As Dallas gears up for training camp, the Pickens-Lamb partnership offers hope for ending the Cowboys’ three-decade championship drought.

Stars, Mikko Rantanen gain upper hand on Jets with Game 3 victory: Takeaways

DALLAS — Winnipeg Jets coach Scott Arniel chuckled when asked before Sunday’s game what had worked so well against preposterously hot Mikko Rantanen in a Game 2 shutout of the Dallas Stars.“Well, we’re not done with him yet,” Arniel said. Not by a long shot. For the fifth time in his last six games, Rantanen had at least three points, chipping in a goal and two assists in Dallas’ 5-2 victory over Winnipeg in Game 3 of their second-round series. Dallas now leads the series 2-1, with Game 4 set for Tuesday night.AdvertisementRantanen’s goal at 4:40 of the third, 49 seconds after Alex Petrovic’s go-ahead tally, broke open what had been a tight contest. The big Finn took a Roope Hintz leave, waited out Dylan Samberg and fired a rising wrister through a Neal Pionk screen past Connor Hellebuyck to make it […]

NASCAR at Kansas results: Kyle Larson dominates on his way to winning the AdventHealth 400

Getty Images One year after prevailing in the closest finish in NASCAR Cup Series history, Kyle Larson left no room for doubt Sunday at Kansas Speedway, leading 221 of 256 laps on his way to a dominant victory in the AdventHealth 400. Larson's win is his third of the season and the 32nd of his Cup career, moving him into a tie with NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Jarrett for 29th on the sport's all-time wins list.Larson was seldom challenged throughout the day, as he not only led all but 35 laps but also swept both stages, set the fastest lap, and earned a maximum 61 points. Larson had the field so well covered that he was able to back off and nurse his car to the finish line, allowing Christopher Bell to close in to a .712 margin that […]

Fantasy Baseball Week 8 Waiver-Wire Targets: Now’s the time to add Jake Burger

Getting sent down to the minors in the first month of the season is just about a worst-case scenario for a player drafted in the first 10 rounds of a Fantasy Baseball league, so it's hard to imagine a worse start to the season than the one Jake Burger had. Burger, the Rangers' big offseason addition to their lineup, hit just .190/.231/.330 in his first 30 games before earning a trip back to Triple-A last week. Fantasy players rightly reacted by dropping Burger en masse, with his roster rate dipping below 50% as of Sunday. And that might actually end up being a mistake, believe it or not. According to The Dallas Morning News, Burger could be back in the Rangers lineup as soon as Monday, with manager Bruce Bochy telling reporters, "I think we are hoping he's going to be ready […]

NASCAR: Kyle Larson’s Kansas win in front of a bunch of empty seats exemplifies NASCAR’s fundamental problem

Kyle Larson’s win at Kansas Speedway in front of a sparse crowd was a great example of the fundamental problem NASCAR faces as it navigates the 2020s and beyond. To be clear, that problem has nothing to do with Larson’s excellence overall and his dominance on Sunday. He won all three stages and clearly had the fastest car, though there was a bit of drama on the final lap. Larson’s car slowed abruptly on the final lap as he nursed it to the finish line less than a second ahead of Christopher Bell. Had the race been 268 laps and not 267, Larson may not have been the winner.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementInstead, the problem was with just how few people were in attendance to watch Larson get his second straight spring win at Kansas. After years of sellouts in the 2000s and 2010s, the […]
