Alba Berlin hat über den Umweg der Play-Ins noch die Play-offs in der Easycredit Basketball-Bundesliga erreicht. Gegen Pokalsieger Syntainics MBC gewinnen die Berliner am Dienstagabend mit 81:78.

„Wir wollen mit der Mentalität reingehen, dass wir das in einem Spiel erledigen und uns für die Playoffs qualifizieren“, hatte Co-Kapitän Jonas Mattisseck vor der wichtigen Partie angekündigt. Das setzen er und seine Mitspieler um. Noch nie hatte der Ex-Meister die Play-offs verpasst. Dabei bleibt es.
Enttäuschend: Obwohl es für Alba um so viel geht, herrscht Saison-Minuskulisse in der Uber Arena. Nur 5.891 Fans sind gekommen. Ein Grund: Die Partie wurde erst vor 48 Stunden angesetzt. Unter den Zuschauern ist Weltmeister und Ex-Alba-Kapitän Johannes Thiemann (31/wechselte 2024 nach Japan).
Der kommt praktisch direkt vom Flughafen in die Halle. Thiemann zu SPORT BILD: „Ich bin vor vier Stunden erst aus Japan gelandet.“ Die Karte hatte ihm sein früherer Teamkollege Mattisseck besorgt.

Die Hauptstädter spielen es von vorne weg. Highlight in Halbzeit eins: Alba-Star Malte Delow knackt Mitte des zweiten Viertels die 1.000-Punkte-Marke in der BBL.
Gäste-Trainer Janis Gailitis zur Pause angefressen: „Wir waren nicht gut genug, spielen ein bisschen kindisch, viele unvollendete Plays. Wir haben noch Luft nach oben.“
Es geht um einen Freiwurf: MBC legt Protest ein
Kurios: Mit 42:32 geht es in die Kabine, mit 43:32 kommen die Teams wieder heraus!
Der Grund liegt in der 18. Minute: Albas Yanni Wetzell beim Freiwurf, sein zweiter Versuch tanzt auf dem Ring. MBC-Spieler Ivan Tkachenko berührt nach Auffassung der Schiris den Ball, der dann reingeht. Statt eines Punktes gibt das laut Regelwerk zwei Punkte. Das wurde in der Halbzeit geändert, nachdem sich die Unparteiischen die Szene in der Kabine offenbar noch einmal angeschaut haben.

Als die Spieler zurück aufs Feld kommen, legt der MBC am Anschreibertisch gegen die Entscheidung Protest ein, Trainer Janis Gailitis diskutiert mit den Referees, Kapitän Charles Callison unterschreibt schließlich den Einspruch. Erst dann geht’s weiter.
Spannend: Erst vor knapp zwei Wochen war es schon mal der MBC, der Protest eingelegt hatte. Damals gegen die Wertung des Spiels bei Bayern München (88:90). Der Einspruch wurde allerdings wegen einer Fristversäumnis der Mitteldeutschen zu deren Ärger direkt abgebügelt.
Dem wollte man dieses Mal wohl entgehen und reichte den Protest gleich während des Spiels ein. Die Erfolgsaussichten dürften allerdings erneut gering sein, da es sich um eine Tatsachen-Entscheidung der Schiris handelt.
Dyn-Experte Mushidi: „Für den MBC braucht es jetzt einfach Eier“
Ungeachtet des Protest-Wirbels fordert Göttingen-Profi und Dyn-Experte Kostja Mushidi (bis 2024 beim MBC) in der Pause: „Für den MBC braucht es jetzt einfach Eier und Mut, nach vorne zu gehen, die Lücken zu attackieren. Der MBC ist der Underdog gegen Berlin, von daher kein Druck, einfach drauf losspielen.“
Das bleibt auch in den zweiten 20 Minuten so. Alba lässt sich vom Einspruch nicht aus dem Konzept bringen, aber den Gegner doch noch mal herankommen. Kurios: Alba trifft die Dreier besser als die Zweier! Nach drei Vierteln sind es 33 Prozent Zweier und 50 Prozent Dreier!
Spielerisch läuft es zwar nicht herausragend, aber körperlich hält das Team von Pedro Calles dagegen – und bringt den Sieg, der sie in die Play-offs bringt, mit leichtem Zittern gegen Ende nach Hause. Beste Werfer: Delow mit 18 Punkten für Berlin, Spencer Reaves mit 21 für die „Wölfe“.
[–>Damit umgehen die Berliner auch ihr Hallen-Problem, das ihnen bei einer Pleite und einem weiteren Play-In-Spiel am Donnerstag wegen Schlager-Star Roland Kaiser gedroht hätte.
Im Play-off-Viertelfinale geht es nun gegen den Hauptrunden-Zweiten Ratiopharm Ulm. Das erste Spiel steigt am Samstag.
Und der MBC? Bekommt am Donnerstag noch ein weiteres Endspiel um die Play-offs: Gegen die EWE Baskets Oldenburg, die die Rostock Seawolves ausschalteten, wird der letzte offene Platz für die Postseason vergeben.
