Kommt Mats Hummels noch einmal zurück zu Borussia Dortmund?
Es ist eines der heißesten Themen rund um den BVB. Der Weltmeister von 2014 hatte angekündigt, seine Karriere nach einer Saison bei der AS Rom zu beenden. Die BVB-Bosse um Hans-Joachim Watzke (65) hatten überlegt, Hummels für die Klub-WM in den USA (ab 14. Juni) zurückzuholen. Doch nun ist klar: Hummels wird nicht mehr als Spieler zurückkehren.
► Grund 1: Der BVB war im April noch in einer Krise, verlor unter anderem 0:4 in Barcelona und 0:2 in Leipzig. Doch inzwischen hat sich die Mannschaft stabilisiert, vor allem dank der starken Dreier-Abwehrkette um Waldemar Anton (28), Niklas Süle (29) und Ramy Bensebaini (30). Mit sechs Siegen aus den letzten sieben Ligaspielen ist die Champions-League-Qualifikation n greifbarer Nähe.
[–>► Grund 2: Zweifel an Hummels’ Spielpraxis. In Rom saß er häufig auf der Bank, während er seine letzte BVB-Saison (2023/2024) noch teilweise brillant aufspielte. Die Dortmunder Bosse setzen lieber auf ihre aktuellen Spieler, wollen deren Selbstbewusstsein stärken.
Eine Rückkehr zum BVB ist dennoch möglich – aber nicht als Spieler, sondern in der Chef-Etage. SPORT BILD berichtete bereits, dass Hummels über seine künftige Funktion selbst entscheiden könne. Der Wunsch, eine Trainerlaufbahn einzuschlagen, wächst bei ihm, doch auch andere Funktionen sind denkbar.
Aktuell ist die Position des Lizenzspielerleiters beim BVB unbesetzt. Hummels könnte als Gesicht des Klubs und geschätzte Persönlichkeit die perfekte Verbindung zwischen Mannschaft und Führung darstellen.
