Im Rahmen der Icon League äußerte sich Portugal–Legende Nani (38) zu einem Beinahe–Wechsel nach Deutschland. Angeblich war der FC Schalke 04 drauf und dran, sich vor einigen Jahren die Dienste des Linksaußens zu sichern.
Grund genug für Icon League–Mitorganisator Toni Kroos (35), in den Kommentaren des Instagram–Posts über den Revierklub zu witzeln. Kroos: „Da hat er nochmal Glück gehabt.“ Dass der Wechsel nicht geklappt hat …
[–>Nani war beim Spieltag der Icon League in Düsseldorf zu Gast und stand in einem Interview Rede und Antwort. Zu Beginn seiner Karriere hatten gleich mehrere deutsche Vereine Interesse an dem Flügelspieler.
„Ich hatte ein paar Mal die Gelegenheit, in die Bundesliga zu wechseln. Es gab ein Gespräch mit Schalke vor einigen Jahren“, sagte er.
Zu welcher Zeit das Angebot der Knappen einflatterte, wollte der Portugiese nicht sagen. Doch auch die Bayern scheinen in der Vergangenheit die Fühler nach Nani ausgestreckt zu haben.
„Sie wollten mich, aber ich habe mich entschieden, einen anderen Weg einzuschlagen. Es war immer toll, gegen deutsche Teams zu spielen, die Atmosphäre war immer fantastisch.“

Im vergangenen Dezember beendete Nani seine Karriere beim portugiesischen Erstligisten Estrela Amadora. Viele Fußballfans kennen den 38-Jährigen als Ronaldo–Kumpel in der portugiesischen Nationalmannschaft (112 Spiele/24 Tore). Zusammen gewannen sie 2016 die EM.
Neben sieben Jahren bei Manchester United war Nani auch bei seinem Heimatverein Sporting Lissabon, dem FC Valencia oder Fenerbahce unter Vertrag. Klubs, mit denen Schalke längst nicht mehr mithalten kann.
