Sparta obhajuje triumf z loňska a s osmi vítězstvími je nejúspěšnějším týmem v historii soutěže. Naopak Hanáci by rádi zvedli trofej teprve podruhé – naposledy se jim to podařilo v roce 2012.
Formu ale nemá na své straně ani jeden z finalistů. Olomouc v nadstavbě bodovala pouze jednou – za bezbrankovou remízu na Baníku. Dvakrát prohrála, navíc s nelichotivým skóre 0:9 (0:5 se Slavií, 0:4 s Jabloncem). Jelikož má jistotu šestého místa, plně se nyní soustředí na středeční pohárový večer.
Hanáci se do finále probojovali po divokém semifinále v Ostravě, kde porazili Baník 3:2. Utkání ale přineslo i bolestivou ztrátu – kvůli zranění do finále nezasáhne nejlepší střelec Jan Kliment.
Ještě horší bilanci než Sigma má v nadstavbě Sparta. Letenští prohráli třikrát za sebou – 0:2 v Plzni, 1:3 doma s Jabloncem a 1:2 v Edenu se Slavií. V ligové tabulce nemohou skončit výš než čtvrtí, a pokud nezaberou, hrozí jim i pád na páté místo.
Svěřenci trenéra Larse Friise však mají příležitost sezonu alespoň částečně zachránit. V semifinále zvládli těžký duel s Plzní, kterou doma porazili 1:0, a soupeře prakticky k ničemu nepustili.
Vzájemná bilance hovoří pro tým z Letné. Sparta zvítězila v pěti z posledních sedmi duelů se Sigmou a jen jednou odešla poražena – na podzim po výsledku 2:3. Připomeňme ale, že právě proti Spartě slavila Olomouc svůj dosud jediný pohárový triumf.
Finále může být pro Olomouc sladkou tečkou za už tak povedeným ročníkem. Sparta naopak bude chtít svůj nevydařený pokus o obhajobu ligového titulu napravit alespoň druhým triumfem v poháru za sebou.
