When Rockstar announced the delay of GTA 6, the reaction from the community was overwhelming. Social media and forums were filled with comments. Many feared the worst. So much so that a Grand Theft Auto 6 mod pinned a message with the suicide prevention number.
A couple of weeks ago, Rockstar confirmed that GTA VI was delayed until May 26. One of the channels with the most comments and responses was Reddit, where thousands of people gave their opinions on the matter.

Among all the threads, one of the most active was created by ToppleToes, one of the original members of a community with more than 1.3 million active members. He simply posted an official screenshot with Rockstar’s message announcing the delay.
What catches our attention is the following post. Kingofhearts67, one of the community’s moderators, added a post in which he added the official source of the news: Rockstar’s website

Alongside this, the mod decided to add both the US suicide prevention number along with the Wikipedia reference where the phone numbers of many other countries can be found.
The delay of Grand Theft Auto 6 came with the suicide prevention number
“Please know that if you or anyone you know is having thoughts of suicide, you are not alone,” he wrote. Wanting to check if this was a one-off or a recurring issue, I investigated some of his recent posts, but did not find it in any others.
In other words, this mod (or perhaps the staff) considered it necessary to leave this number next to the news in case any player was excessively upset by the news or it was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
It is certainly striking. However, far from the – perhaps – exaggerated nature of his reaction, sharing this type of aid is always a good idea. After all, it could save the life of someone who really needs help.
However, most users took this reference as a joke, downplaying it and even ‘mocking’ the situation. After all, it is curious that someone would consider it appropriate to add this number after Rockstar announced the delay of GTA 6.
Was it an overreaction on his part, an alarmist thought that nevertheless brings something useful beyond the situation or a way of reacting without much sense? Many have debated this topic, but still have not reached a consensus. Some even think it was a bad joke.
In any case, the anecdote is there: the delay of Grand Theft Auto 6 caused so much fear in some users that it even prompted a person to share the suicide prevention number in one of the most viral GTA 6 threads on Reddit.
