Wenn man es genau nimmt, schenkt Frank Baumann (49) seinem neuen Arbeitgeber direkt 100 000 Euro – mindestens.
Sein offizieller Dienstbeginn als Sportvorstand bei Schalke 04 ist auf den 1. Juni datiert. Doch schon seit April arbeitet der ehemalige Werder-Manager rund 40 Stunden pro Woche für die Königsblauen, ist in der Regel zwei Tage vor Ort. Bei einem Jahresgehalt von 700 000 Euro sind das pro Woche rund 15 000 Euro, auf die er verzichtet. Er macht es gern – weil er weiß, was er für eine Großbaustelle übernimmt.
Die Trainer-Suche
Bis Mitte Mai soll die Kandidatenliste auf drei Namen schrumpfen, Ende des Monats soll der neue Trainer gefunden sein. Dass sich Paderborns Noch-Trainer Lukas Kwasniok (43) von selbst öffentlich anbot, überraschte auch Baumann. Denn lange Zeit war aus Kwasnioks Umfeld zu hören, dass er unbedingt in die Bundesliga wechseln wolle. Mittlerweile hat er den Bossen auch selbst das Signal gesendet, das ihn Schalke reizt. Beide Parteien stehen im regelmäßigen Austausch, er ist einer der Kandidaten.
[–>Während Vorstandsboss Matthias Tillmann (41) zuletzt federführend entschied, sich von Kees van Wonderen (56) zu trennen, trifft Baumann nun die Entscheidung über den Nachfolger final. Auch er meint: Schalke darf keinen Trainer holen, der das Hauptaugenmerk auf die Defensive legt. Dass die Veltins-Arena dauerhaft ausverkauft ist, soll so bleiben – mit offensivem Power-Fußball.
Die Verkäufe
Baumann hat bereits Signale aus der Finanzabteilung erhalten: Er soll im Sommer mindestens zehn Millionen Euro durch Spielerverkäufe einnehmen. In dem Fall hätte er ein Transfer-Budget von rund drei Millionen Euro zur Verfügung. Dass Taylan Bulut (19) den Klub verlässt, ist Baumann bewusst. Er wird per Ausstiegsklausel sechs bzw. acht Mio. Euro einbringen. Je nachdem, ob sein neuer Verein in der Champions League spielt.
[–>Für Stürmer Moussa Sylla (25) fordert Schalke rund acht Millionen Euro. Dass der Top-Torjäger in der frühen Phase des Transferfensters verkauft wird, halten die Bosse für unwahrscheinlich. Sie gehen eher davon aus, dass Sylla die Vorbereitung – vielleicht sogar die ersten Saisonspiele – noch für S04 bestreiten wird.
Der Rumpel-Fußball
Spiele wie in Regensburg (0:2) oder gegen Paderborn (0:2) haben auch die Führungsebene geschockt. Um das zukünftig zu verhindern, gehen Baumanns Überlegungen über die Trainersuche und Kaderplanung weit hinaus. Er will jeden Stein umdrehen – und dabei sogar vor dem Rasen in der Arena nicht Halt machen. Um schnelleren und attraktiveren Fußball zu spielen, planen die Bosse, die Qualität des Rasens auf den Trainingsplätzen und im Stadion zu verbessern. Vor der dritten Zweitliga-Saison klammert man sich auf Schalke an jeden Halm.

Duke coach Jon Scheyer has agreed to a two-year extension running through the 2030-31 season as he enters his fourth year coming off a Final Four run.The school announced the deal Thursday for the 38-year-old successor to retired Hall of Famer Mike Krzyzewski.
