Scarlett Johansson is the new cover star of the June edition of Vanity Fair as she promotes her new film in the Jurassic Park saga, and in an interview the actress spoke about the impact that technology has had not only on the film industry, but also on the Academy Awards.
“These are the people who are funding the studies. It’s all these big tech companies that are funding our industry and the Oscars, and there you have it,” Johansson said in an interview published in VF Hollywood and replicated via Daily Mail.
“I guess we’re being silenced in a lot of ways, because the truth is that these big tech companies are completely intertwined in every aspect of our lives. I don’t know how you fight against that,” the talented actress added.
The Marvel star also said he is concerned that AI does not have enough boundaries.
“There need to be some consensual limits so that AI is not harmful. I wish more people in the public eye would support and speak out about it; I don’t know why they don’t,” Scarlett said.
The complicated filming alongside Bill Murray
Scarlett said she was proud of herself for dealing with a difficult star during the filming of Lost in Translation, alongside Bill Murray.
“I’m pretty proud of how I behaved. I just did my job, you know? It’s a good tactic to get through things. With the goal in mind”.
And she also mentioned her co-star Bill Murray.
“Bill was in a difficult situation,” Johansson said. “Everyone was on tenterhooks around him, including our director and the whole team, because he was dealing with his problems,” and mentioned that he had never come across an actor in that mental state.
Earlier this year, Johansson ran into Murray at the 50th anniversary special of Saturday Night Live. “He’s a very different person now. I think life has humbled him,” she said.
When asked about the recent allegations of misconduct against Murray, Johansson said: “It was very hard. But I also know that Covid was very hard for him. All these things have led him to be held accountable for that kind of behavior. But you know what? It’s wonderful that people can change”.
Scarlett will star in Jurassic World Rebirth, which opens on July 2, and her directorial debut, Eleanor the Great, premieres this week at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
