Im Spiel Klein gegen Groß (15 Mio.-Etat gegen 2,8 Mio.) hat der THW Kiel beim Aufsteiger VfL Potsdam mehr Mühe als gedacht. Wie im Hinspiel (23:27) verlangt die jüngste Mannschaft der Daikin Handball-Bundesliga (23,5 Jahre) dem Rekordmeister alles ab. Am Ende gewinnen die Kieler mit Mühe vor 2250 Fans in der ausverkauften MBS-Arena 25:22 (10:11).

Beim großen THW Kiel (23 Mal Meister) liegen im Duell beim Aufsteiger und zukünftigen Absteiger schon kurz nach dem Anpfiff die Nerven blank. Das Team mit europäischen Handball-Stars gespickt erwischt einen ganz schlimmen Tag. Der THW ist vorn und hinten nach nur 12 Minuten (4:3) so schwach, dass offenbar Fans meinen, unfair eingreifen zu müssen.
Fiese Fake-Pfiffe gegen tapfere Potsdamer
Aus dem Kieler Fan-Block (150 Anhänger) kommen immer wieder Trillerpfeifen-Pfiffe, die die Potsdamer als Schiedsrichter-Signale deuten.
Mit Folgen in der 13. Minute: Potsdams Dustin Kraus bricht den Angriff ab, läuft in die Kieler Deckung, weil er denkt, die Schiedsrichter hätten gepfiffen. Haben sie nicht, der Ballbesitz wechselt, Kiel macht per Konter das 5:3.
Potsdams Sportlicher Leiter Axel Bornemann schreitet daraufhin selbst zur Tat, geht mit einem Ordner in den Fan-Block und beruhigt die Gemüter – zumindest im Gäste-Block.

Überhaupt nicht mehr beruhigen will sich Kiels Trainer Filipp Jicha (43), der tobt an der Seitenlinie wie ein Rumpelstilzchen. So einen schlechten Auftritt seines Teams hat er schon lange nicht mehr gesehen, und das ausgerechnet vor dem European-League-Final4 am kommenden Wochenende in Hamburg. Normalform hat nur Keeper Andreas Wolff (34).
Kiels Petter Overby zur Halbzeit bei WELT TV und Dyn: „Wir glaubten, wir können das hier pitsch-patsch machen, hatten keinen Respekt vor Potsdam. Wir müssen nicht herumlabern, sondern schneller zur Sache kommen.“

Zuvor hatte Wiencek im Spiel einen Block gestellt, doch statt zum Tor zu gehen, passt Skipagötu unmotiviert den Ball auf seinen Außen. Wiencek am Ende des Streits: „Ich drück‘ ihn weg, und du bleibst stehen!“
Dann schreit Jicha seine Jungs zusammen: „Guckt mich verdammt noch mal alle an!“ Dann bekommt Skipagotu von Jicha sein Fett weg: „Du musst mehr Verantwortung übernehmen. Du musst uns mehr Durchschlagskraft geben. Du bist durch, Elias, du musst das nehmen.“ Hilft nicht, Potsdam geht mit 11:10 in die Pause, feiert, als wäre das schon der Sieg.
[–>Kiel ist danach mehrmals mit drei Toren (16:13/38.) vorn, doch die tapferen Brandenburger wird der THW nicht los. Potsdam führt sogar 20:19 – geht hier was? Bis nur 55. Minuten immer noch alles offen, 21:21. Am Ende hilft der starke Wolff.
Kiel gewinnt, weil Deutschlands Torhüter-Star seiner Mannschaft buchstäblich den Hintern rettet. Er stellt mit 20 Paraden einen persönlichen Bundesliga-Rekord auf. Auch Potsdams Martin Tomovski (28) glänzt mit 14 Paraden.
