King Charles III has personally written a letter of support to Joe Biden after it was announced that the former United States president had been diagnosed with an advanced form of prostate cancer.
Buckingham Palace confirmed that the monarch, who is himself undergoing cancer treatment, sent the private message following the public release of Biden‘s medical update, but the nature and content of the King’s letter remain undisclosed.

Palace officials acknowledged it was heartfelt and written by the King himself as the 76-year-old reaches out to someone he has enjoyed a respectful diplomatic relationship with, grounded in shared priorities such as climate change.
The 82-year-old Biden, who left office in January 2025, received his diagnosis after recent tests revealed a prostate nodule and he told the world on May 18 in an official statement.

“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule,” a statement said. “After experiencing increasing urinary symptoms.
“On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.”
The cancer is aggressive, though reportedly hormone-sensitive meaning there are treatment options with promising outcomes, which is good news for the politician and his family.
“Cancer touches us all,” Biden later posted on X.com, formerly Twitter. “Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places.
“Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”
The connection between King Charles and Biden has deepened over the years through the latter’s rise from vice president to the presidency between 2008-2025, and the Brit can offer uniquely personal advice on this topic.
In February 2024, Buckingham Palace announced King Charles had begun cancer treatment following a hospital stay for an enlarged prostate, although his condition was of a different type. He is still battling the disease to this day.
Trump responds to Biden’s cancer
President Donald Trump has publicly responded to the news of Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis, expressing sympathy and offering his support to the father-of-four and his family as he sets their bitter rivalry aside.
Biden is currently undergoing evaluation and planning for treatment, which comes less than a year after he dropped out of the United States’ Presidential Election, and Trump‘s comment represents a rare moment of civility.
“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden‘s recent medical diagnosis,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”
While critics speculated whether those signs were linked to an underlying health condition, there is no confirmed connection between Biden‘s prostate cancer diagnosis and his earlier public appearances that raised concern.
Trump, now 78, is poised to become the oldest-serving president if he completes another term in office. Biden‘s diagnosis has reignited broader national discussions about the age and health of the USA’s political leadership.
Trump‘s son, Donald Jr., however, did not share the same concern and questioned if Jill Biden should have been aware of her husband’s ailing health, suggesting it could have been covered up.
