The fight between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Terence Crawford will not take place until September. However, months before the fight, the first round has already taken place outside the ring. Arab promoter and sheikh Turki Alalshikh has replaced Dana White as the main promoter of this fight, which was scheduled for Friday, September 12 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
However, that weekend there are several sporting events, including a UFC event, a women’s basketball game and a college football game. After Canelo’s victory over William Scull in early May, Saudi sponsor Turki Alalshikh announced that Canelo would face Crawford in a fight on September 12, promoted by White, who even directed a promotional “face-off” between the two pugilists.
However, due to Dana White’s lack of vision before the sporting spectacles of the same weekend in the same region, Turki Alalshikh surprised everyone when he announced that Canelo-Crawford will take place on September 13, the same day as UFC Night, and that the fight could take place somewhere outside of Las Vegas. Therefore, the Arab businessman revealed that Sela would be the main promoter of Canelo-Crawford and not White.
Where would the fight between Canelo vs Crawford take place?
The last date mentioned by Turki (September 13) should be the official day, since in the boxing calendar of the Mexican champion, he only fights in May and September, the latter to commemorate the Independence of Mexico. Saturdays are the stellar days for boxing events and for Canelo Alvarez it should be before the Patriotic Dates as has been a tradition in recent years.
Among the venues where this match could take place is the city of Los Angeles, either at the SoFi Stadium or at the Crypto.com Arena, home of the Los Angeles Lakers. However, there is no official notice of a change of venue. If it remains in Las Vegas, it would be held at an arena or casino that is available and willing to pay a very high amount of money for this event.
